Iknow, i know. Another TYRE size thread.
I have aquired a set of 17 x 7.5 inch rims with a +42 offset. What is the ideal size tyre to run on these.
Thanks

225/50/17 or 215/50/17 are good

235/45/17 will fit but will have a slight over-bulge which isn't ideal for performance

+1 to what Hayden said. You could run 235/45/17 but my preference would be 225/50/17, as the former would have a slight over-bulge. 225/50/17 is the same size as the factory 17" rims too.

But ,he has 7.5" as distinct from the factory 7.0 " ,surely 235 would fit okay ?

Yep, 7.5" would be fine for a 235 tyre. If a 225 wide tyre is recommended by the manufacturer for a 7" wide rim, why wouldn't a 10mm wider tyre be suitable for a 12.7mm wider wheel?
Sure, it won't fit as perfectly as it will on an 8" wide rim but it's still legal........and cheaper than the alternatives. Far better selection available too.

Ive had 235/40/18's on my 7.5's for a while & find it perfect for everyday use, they respond well to sudden changes in direction.
I even had 225/60 on 6in rims on my previous sports for years & worked well but if your going to use as track day car or anything like that then 225 is better.
