I've ordered a single din with storage tray to replace my double din unit with my newer Alpine single din but there's a Security light on the old one, what do I do with it/about it? Can I rip/dremel that part out and glue it under the dash or do i even need it, is it an actual part of the security system or just a bullshit fake thing? If so can I just put it on/into the front of the new storage tray?

Thanks!

The factory magna headunits were security coded so that if they lost power then they needed a code to unlock them. However, these units do not form apart of the circuit for the security system.
You can remove any factory headunit and the alarm/immob will still work fine - I know from personal exp with the three headuntis I've put into it.

The light is just there to show that the headunit is in 'secure' mode. It is a 'bulshit fake thing'.
There should also be a security light on the dash for when you lock the car to show you its armed anyway.

If you want to still have a flashing light then just get a cheap panel mount led off ebay and wire it to a relay and a constant source of power with a resistor in the line so it uses the least amount of electricity as possible.

Doh! It has been so many years since I've had to deal with a factory installed head unit I didn't even think it'd be related to the unit itself only.

Thanks heaps!
