I noticed this morning there appeared a Spanner symbol on the screen where it shows the range, avg fuel etc on to the left of it. I was wondering if anyone knows what it is. It is due for 5000kms service in the next 500kms or so. And also I am planning to drive down to Sydney for New Year's eve. Any suggestions would be greatful. Thanks.

It isnt a warning system to remind you not be a tool on the roads this xmas....
;)
Its just a service due warning light...
I would service it before I left if I hadnt service it in while, and especially if I used the car to a lot of short trips...
Some 380's on here that do lots of short trips, have had the issue of losing a lot of oil on a long trip, if the car isnt used for long trips. At the very least, carry some extra oil, and check the oil 200km and 400 kms down the road, if you dont know how the behaves on long trips...especially in hot summer conditions.
I would would also recommend you catch up on a little light reading, like the Cars manual.....
How often do you service your car.? When was its last one? How many Km's...

i dont do long trips at all. this is gonna be the first long tripto Sydney. i also want to get it serviced too. Its just that all other mechanics are booked out because of Christmas...The last service was done 174900kms... now its on 17990kms. I only do 25kms trips to work. Service the car every 5000k's.

Servicing every 5 thousand for a car used on short trips is a good habit. If you cant do an oil change by yourself. Or by someone else. Take oil with you. You never know. You probably wont need it. But it has happened. Where are you anyway..
I would do the trip. But I have knowhow... I would also run down with a tank of shell 98 fuel. Clean those injectors a bit. But I rarely use mine..

Hi Guys! Thanks for all the support. i did the trip with no issues at all. not even needed oil, coolant or spanners.
The only thing i have noticed on my way back is the car is revving up but not moving "when quickly accelarated from a lower speed to a higher speed". Mine is Manual transmission 380. For example, if I want to overtake a car, you need to go from 80 to 110kmph quickly and we slam the accelarator to go up quickly. What happens then is the car revvs go up quickly revving up and car doesnt move. And then when I take my foot off a little bit and accelarate slowly, it catches up the speed. This happens even when you accelarate using the cruise control. But I feel like something is slipping when i quickly try to accelarate. Anybody knows what it is?
I am gonna get my major service done up soon.

Yep, sounds like a slipping clutch, did you notice any smells when it was occurring?

Yea i had a doubt it was clutch. I couldnt smell anything as I was cruising at 110km/h most of the time and this doesnt happen when u travel in 60km/h.
Guys please do give me an idea of how much the costs would be to get a new one? I guess i have to get a new clutch plate right? or are they repairable? Im live in Brisbane north. Any suggestions or help is appreciated. I am still gaining knowledge on my car. had it only for a few months. Thanks in advance.

I had that happen to me in the magna, had to adjust the clutch pedal, just with a little bit of play, so you know the pedal is completely disengaged, that was the magna, can't imagine the 380 being much different..so I has slip in the longer gears, but not any more..
As for taking oil with you, let's just say I have done a lot of reading here... The info is here.. Some 380's used for short trips, suddenly consumed a lot of oil on a longer trip. IIRC, one even suffered engine damage... But anyway not needed, so that's even better.

unfortunately if it's slipping, you'll need a new one all together.these cars don't have $hit all power so you can probably stick another standard clutch in.
