Hey guys

I have recently inherited a 3 Litre v6 si and I am wondering did the ts end up with the 124 kw or 141 kw v6?

Also if I was to go absolute tuner style but get as much power as I can without effecting reliability (turbos etc) what would I be looking at doing besides the obvious air filter and exhaust mods

There 120kw on standard fule or 124 on premium. With the old 72 a good exhaust goes well. Other tan that you could convert it to a 6g72 doch motor, plenty of mods for those

Unless you want to en the motor up and throw in a nice set of cams , headwork, up the compression, etc

Well I don't want to swap the motor or turbocharge but other then that I'm open to any price or idea

So where would I look to get cams and well any performance parts for a ts?

Rpw has nothing, eBay has nothing and I ain't gonna try autotardbarn or superexpensiveauto cause they cost alot for very little in terms of quality and service

If you want to modify, get a different engine. The old 12valve v6 is a bit of a dinosaur.

Spend the money keeping it running nice and save up for something thats a better place to start with

A smooth and reliable dinosaur, though. lol
Got to agree, keep it standard and see it for what it is - an outdated model that is cheap and pleasant to own. Performance parts are scarce, so why bother? If it is auto, a manual conversion is possible.

EDIT: in it's favour, there are plenty of them at wreckers, plenty of spare parts. Have a good look at these, you may come across updated brakes, exhaust or suspension on a wreck.

I know it gonna be custom and expensive but I really wanna be stubborn and get some extra power out of this car because I intend to keep it another 5-10 years yet

Stubborn of me I know but still... I was considering a stage 3 tune from RPW for $3400 which says it ups the power from 130hp at the weeks to 180... Hrm that sounds like sex on wheels to me

You could but thats a bit like 'its the most powerful one out' ' but still slower then most other cars'

i believe the best bang for bucks mod is a manual conversion

Got a link to it? I would be skeptical of anything that claims such a huge power increase.

For that kinda money you can do 3L DOHC conversion

Trotty,

I've been looking to buy said bits for a fair while (Albeit not from a rip off wrecker) any chance you could find out what the guy is willing to sell for?

Cheers

Ok so umm I've decided instead of going tuner style I can do turbo or supercharger for near the same money with about 40% more power gain.

Anyone willing to gimme tips? Like... Supercharger or turbo? I know the engines don't like high boost, so I was just gonna go like 7psi or something and I was thinking rotrex supercharger cause it seems like I could do most of the handy work myself

I don't think anyone has done turbo/supercharge for the second gen v6 (successfully anyway). You have to remember the 2nd gen V6 is a different motor from the 3rd gen V6 so any "bolt on" turbo/supercharge kits you see are going to be for the 3rd gen 6G74.

Anyone who has been serious about getting more power from the 2nd gen 6g72 has normally gone the path of the DOHC engine swap from a 1st gen Diamante or non-turbo 3000GT/GTO. They are the same bottom end as the SOHC so go in relatively easily and mate upto the gearbox. Instant power increase from 120kw to 154kw (think you get abit more if you use a GTO engine).

Correct me if I am wrong but won't the 3.5L motor fit on the same mounts, etc? If that's the case why not get a TJ motor from the wreckers...change the seals and the rings (if need be) and whack it in.

6G72 (3.0L) and 6G74 (3.5L) engines from the TE-onwards use a different orientation - motor on the drivers side, crankshaft rotating forward. Second Gens have the motor on the passenger side and iirc, the crankshaft rotates back toward the firewall. The 3.0L DOHC engine from the Diamante or GTO/3000GT is the best bet due to relatively decent availability and a strong availability of aftermarket parts.

There was a 3.5L DOHC 6G74 motor from the Debonair that will fit, but it's a rare motor. I only know of one Second Gen that currently has one fitted.

You won't find an off-the-shelf supercharger kit for a 2nd Gen like you can find for the 3rd Gen and 380s. So you'd be doing a lot of handy work to get the thing to fit. Don't forget that you need to factor in a piggyback ECU and tuning afterwards.

Another forum member is getting Bullet Supercars to install a Rotrex on their 380. Drive-in drive-out, Bullet capped the price at $10,500....
