Hey folks,

Like most of you with a TR/TS Magna, you're probably tired of your headlights not being as bright as most cars out there today. I've added +120 Philips bulbs, which should be all right result in extraordinarily bright lights, while better it's still pretty poor for country driving. The culprit so I found is voltage drop, 11.4volts @ the bulb.... is pretty darn weak.

So I figured i'd re-do the entire headlight harness, add 4 relays, 2 for hi, 2 for low, utilising the existing wiring for the relay switching. This was complicated by the fact that the headlights are ground switched, as in when you hit that stalk to change to hi-beam, it simply cuts the ground for lo, and completes the ground for hi-beam.

I've done up a wiring diagram to start with and wondered if anyone to confirm, or correct my diagram (It is fairly rudimentary mind you), I also haven't gone to the trouble yet of speccing cable, relays, new H4/H1 plugs. I was thinking of 6mm (Can handle up to 50amps)

I dont have a TR/TS, but man... that's an awesome piece of work. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks man, I thought it a little bit crude but it's functional I believe. Main thing I need confirmation on is the headlights being ground switched, i'm not sure if they are or aren't.

Hello. I had imported some dimante headlamps from the us. First drama was no intergrated parkers in the assembly. Second things is they use HB4 bulbs. Took the car to the autoelectritian for the wiring change. I added leds to the indicators for the parkers. Electrition can confirm that the ligts are ground switched and hense my main drama now is that when i activate highbeam the los cut out. As the hb4 bulbs are only single filament. If the wiring was positive switched it would be easy to bridge the lo and hi so the lows stay on when high beam is activated. I need to figure how to keep the lo beam on when high beam is on. Note when switch is momentary i.e. high beam flash. Bith lo and hi illuminate. Once switch is complete the lo cuts out. Hopefully this detail can help us both. Good luck and if i get any progress keep you up to date.

OK, changing the wiring to positive switched would be a positive pain in the a#se, i'd suggest simply altering the existing wiring, since you don't have a high beam filament to power you have a spare accessory pin on the high beam relay... get where i'm headed with this?
To to this properly in such a way your lighting is the best it can be, you'll need;

2 x 12v 4 pin 30amp relays
2 x 12v 5 pin 30amp relays

A 5-10m roll of 4mm auto cable, plenty of blue male and female insulated crimp terminals, crimper etc. Follow the wiring diagram and you'll end up with a system that gives you best voltage to the bulb, and permanent low beam on.
