Heading out to the wreckers today to pick up a new horn for the Magna, are there any other makes that will work with the magna that may sound better/different?
Also If I take a 9V battery with me, this should be enough to test the horn works yeah?

A 9v Battery should be enough, but the sound would be louder on a 12v.
I pulled a horn off a BA Falcon the other day, which was the same as my KL (Positive switch, negative earth to the body of the car).
Im not sure about the TE, but some of the Magnas i saw at the wreckers had two connectors (One should be signal, the other earth)

Come out to a meet and I'll show you how loud a set of falcon EL fairlane horns are. We compared them to Haydens 380 horns and mine where louder. I feel like hooking up anouther set of dual falcon horns :P
They're located behind the EL grille with mounting brackets and wiring. Trim the edges of the mounting bracket and it'll bolt up to the middle rad support behind the front grille without drilling. (paint them red to look like supetones :P )Wiring in is as easy as hooking its blue/white wire to the wire on your current horn and earthing the black wire.

Far out man, I don't reckon you're kidding! Look at the size difference side by side, I love the fact it has a freaking trumpet attached lol! Thanks for recommending this, can't wait til it's hooked up and a driver cuts me off .

I'm going to make a custom adapter for the fairmont horn, going to cut the plugs off my broken TE horn and solder them to the ends of the falcon horn, that way I can keep my original wiring in tact :).
Chucked the TF magna horn on first just to make sure nothing else was faulty and yup, worked a treat :D. Also I can't recommend using the 9v battery as a test more, saved me a lot of trouble finding a horn that works and also confirmed my old horn was dead.

I used the existing bracket, but bent slightly to fit behind the washer bottle.

Te and tf switch negative and supply 12v constantly to the horn
Th onwards switch positive.
You need a relay to use single contact horns. My galant has 4 380 horns

Shouldn't really matter how the horn switches though? Isn't it a matter of completing the circuit? Or are you saying that if I was to fit say a TH horn, it would sound constantly unless I put a relay in?

Thanks mate, got a kh,tf and el fairlane horn :)
did you get both ? there is a low and high tone, flip the brackets back to back and mount them on the radiator/bonnet support rod, there is even a hole there, will chuck up some shots tomorrow

Yeh that's it mate. Had this issue trying to fit a kj horn pack to my tf.
Goig to fit el horns this week. If you do yours soon, some steps would be appreciated. Not sure if you need to change anything to make these works.

They are huge compared to the standard magna ones. Seriously strong and mean sound. People who cut me off really remember doing so now days lol
I fiddled around with them and the trumpets point toward the bonnet. Looks great behind the grille. I'm going to paint them red to make it look like fake wannabe supertones.
You can use the EL falcon mount. Just trim those edges that bend up. Then overlap the two horn brackets and put a bolt through the middle. I found a spare bolt hole near the latch and bolted the horns up to it. Fits nicely behind the grille.
Wiring wise, I spliced into the factory (green) horn wire and fitted a crimp connector so I can remove it in the future. Black earth wire went to a dual wire earthing mount I found on a spare loom. It was great because I needed a spare earth wire for the parabolic headlights as well.
Enjoy!

So which way around is the fairmont horn wired? Would I need a relay?
I shouldn't need to worry about earthing as my TE already has earth going through the plugs right? Like I just hook up the 2 wires I already have and should be sweet (pending possible relay issues?)
Also I only got 1 horn from the fairmont, which is the one you see pictured above, that was the only one I could see behind the grille. That should be alright? Am I missing part of it? I can't see how a 2nd one would attach to that without more plugs (which there were only 2 of as well).

the horns are placed either side of the centre of the car.
Where you took yours from, there is a corresponding mount on the right side, either it wasn't a fairmont,or someone took the other one

Could have been a fairlane, no idea to be honest, it was a ford that looked classy.
The horn I've got though, is that going to be OK? I guess I'll wire it up and see how it sounds on its lonesome :).

This is one thing that has bothered me for a while. The lack of sound from the horn.
So cause I have a TJ it will have one wire. So all I will need to do is connect that then earth to the other connection?

I would personally just earth one of the wires to the mounting bracket, thats where your existing horn earths, and then connect the 1 wire you have to the other connector.

I just won an auction on eBay for a pair of fairlane horns. I'll post pics when I receive them and install.

Put my horns in this afternoon and definitely a great improvement.
Funny thing happened when I was putting my horns in.
My sister turned up in her BA Ford and says while I'm playing with horns hers doesn't work. So I had a look at it and it was dead. So I put my horn out of the TJ into her car.

Went to the wreckers and found 2 horns. The Fiamm AM-80 high tone can be found on EF/EL Falcons and the matching low tone is on AU Falcons. They are left and right handed. Was going to put these the TJ but had a better idea.

2 li-po batteries from old broken R/C helicopters I had lying around. They are 7.2v each wired in series. Gives it a few more volts than a car would. Plus being out in the open they are really loud. Salvaged the switches from an old coffee machine. Sure beats the old bell.

I love it, Jimbo!
I too recently grabbed a pair of horns from a BA or similar Falcon at the wreckers. Cost me about $35, but a good upgrade to my wife's little Toyota.
Now when the horn gets used, people look at her car, then look in the other direction trying to find out where the taxi is. :)
FYI, the Toyota factory horn had a chassis earth and positive wire to the horn, so I just plugged the loom into the positive of the Falcon horn and crimped up a wire onto a spade connector and joined the -ve to the bracket.
