G'day guys,

Purchased a steering wheel off another member here for quite good money. Was labeled as being a VRX Limited Edition wheel. For those who aren't familiar with these wheels, they are the same as the MOMO ralliart wheels; but have silver handles as opposed to the ralliart red.

Now I've had this wheel fitted to my car for about 8000km and it was in great condition when I fitted it. Now, the wheel is losing the silver almost each time I drive it. I suspected it needed conditioning so I tried that to no luck. I am now wondering what I can do to fix this. It is a shame that it is wearing so quickly, and I haven't herd of this issue before. It's almost like it has been dyed silver and its hit the point where it's wearing off.

After any options to get it looking nice again. Really love these wheels. I'm not against re-dying it all black, but have nil experience in this area.

Thanks
Matt

Have the silver sections professionally re-dyed, or have a upholsterer unstitch the silver sections and refit a better quality leather in a colour of your choosing.

Strange though, I've not had that trouble with my wheel (though mine was brand new) and I have put at least 10k on it since

Yeh it sure is. Might have to enquire about that. Do you have any ideas as to what sort of $$$ to expect.

Good question, at a guess I don't think you'll get change out of $150-200.

As far as the wear goes, I imagine it depends on how the leather was maintained prior to your purchase

Yeh and for that sort of money I could get a brand new ralliart wheel when they pop up. Might have a look at DIY dyeing it.

Last new Ralliart wheel I saw was $610 off fleabay

At least if you try your hand at it, you can have it the way you want. And hey, if it all goes south, dye it all black! No-one will be the wiser lol

There's a bidding one now for $250 starting bid.

Anyway that's besides the point.

Cheers for the advice Daniel. Will keep it in mind.

Keep in mind various shit on your hands  ( suntan cream, moisturiser, insect repellant etc.) can effect some of these dyes.
Good reason to keep up with the leather conditioning.

I've noticed a few Ralliart's on car sales etc (some with less KMs than mine) with steering wheels where the leather looks very second rate.
Yet mine still looks in great condition.

I wonder if there was a change in dye quality or process along the way.

Have seen these do that when there has been as Zero stated creams on hands, solvents etc etc. I had a brand new LE one a few years ago, looked awesome for about 6 months but being in the trade I am in when I wash my hands and use harsh hand cleaner and add to the fact if my hands are not too bad I might just jump in and drive it started to wear, my ex used to use heaps of hand cream, used to put it on at the lights (I know, not good) and when she started driving the car all the silver pretty much dissappeared

Yes not exactly sure. I am quite careful about what i touch my wheel with and try an maintain clean hands. Not always possible but still I try.

Maybe the previous owner wasn't as careful.

Anyway thinking about redying it black. As nice as it is to have a LE wheel, it goes with nothing inside the car.

Unless you have a good condition kl kw gtvi wheel in stock mal?

Most of the silver ones I have seen through work have had very little silver remaining. I agree black would be the best option
