For a start try loosening off the tail light retaining nuts & see if you can move the light across so the boot lid doesn't hit it. May then be able to get the boot closer to the locking catch then tie it shut with coathanger wire.

Cheers

any estimates on cost? 1000? 1500? 2500?

rio bar is slightly bent under. should bend back tho as its only moved about 1cm on one end, rear bar should be fixable hopefully, the costly bit would the panel beating the area around the light out as thats all been pushed in like 3cm

1000-1500 done properly at a guess

Just tell them to only touch the bits that need done to make it look right, that slight indent in the boot area won't change how it drives, unless you go through insurance, then tell them to bring it back perfect.

I'd say $1500 is optimistic.

That rear bar used to cost around that much from Mitsubishi alone. It looks mostly repairable using a heatgun, however i'm not sure on the small section under the rear taillight which is twisted. Maybe a bit of fibreglassing by a pro can fix that.

As for the panel, it's not looking good. The entire back 1/4 section from the middle of the boot appears pushed in. This would need to be pulled out professionally and then resprayed. That could easily cost $1500. They may need to pull out a frame machine which could cost a pretty penny.

Do you have insurance?

Mal has a rear bar your color for sale.

I do too, but is red and dual cut outs.
This is only if it can't be repaired

Grab a screw driver or something similar, put it where the latch would normally go and push up toward the boot.
To release this just press the boot switch or unlock with the key

Why do you need new rear bar? This can be fixed

If you were in NSW i could have that fixed for about $600 tops + tail light cost

At that price you could drive down for the cost

Look inside the bootlid for the boot locking mechanism. Disconnect any electrical wires you see from around the bootlock or keyhole on the bootlid. That should disengage the bootlock alarm.

And +1 to Sean. For $600 I'd just about tow the car on all fours at that cost. Not sure if he's aware of the damage or not, but I doubt anyone would fix that damage for under 1.3.1.5k cash so get the car down there asap!

All the wires amount to 1 on the boot latch. Disc that and the bem won't know boot is open
