So Im about 6 months away from needing 4 new treads for the car & I was wondering what ppls thoughts were on different brands of tyres.
Right now I have 4 x Yoka Advance Sports 235/35/19s. I find that the front tyres tend to slip/skip a little when I hook into it (its manual too btw)...
Im not interested in budget tyres but dont want to pay $500 per tyre either...
Any suggestions of well price good all round tyres would be appreciated :)

Kinforest......good all round tyre for the money.
Had a set of 20's on my Ralliart and now have 18's on the VRX and 16's on the Rada and they grip well with little to no road noise.
Why pay $400 for a tyre when these do the same job for less than half.

never heard of them - ill check them out :)
Easiest is to set a budget, look at two or three tyre brands and go from there.
You decision also depend on how you drive your car, if it is used for daily driving within 60-80 km/h speed limits or will you be using your car for specialized or hard driving?
Do you drive in the wet or slippery or undulated roads or mainly on freeway/highway?
Do you want long term hard rubber, or shorter life span softer rubber?
As an example I went with Maxxis MA-Z1 235/40ZR/R18 95W for two different reasons, budget (about $200 each) and wet weather performance.
Kinforest - what are they like in the wet? I would hazard a guess that they are awful compared to a premium tyre

Kumho KU31s have a really good following on the forums. Good grip wet and dry, wear reasonably, and great value. Only catch is that they get quite noisy as they wear.
There's no way a set of Kinforest tyres would be any better than the Yokohamas you have on currently.

still with federal 595 and kumho ku31 as the best, safest daily driving with a splash of spirit.

Depends what your budget is.
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 2
Yokohama Advan's
They're the pick of the two if you want a nice street tyre..

I'll second this - best tyres I've had on any car

Kinforest seem to go alright in the wet, i drive in all conditions and have never had a problem.
I did Bathurst around the track extremely hard in my Ralliart on Kinforest 20's and went even harder two months ago on Kinforest 17's and they served me very well.
No, probably not as good as Yokohama but at a quarter of the price, why would you pay more for a street tyre to go to and from work ?

ive got to agree with that also, i have these on my 380 TMR as well as my corolla, excellent wet and dry, and yes are fairly noisy but doesnt bother me, ive got Federal 595's on my AWD TL but only had them on for 2 weeks but so far im happy with their performance especially their price, i do reccommend qld's best wheels and tyres, and brisbane mobile tyres

I'm running the Goodyear eagle asymmetric 2.
Absolutle beast of a tyre. The couple of hard bits of driving I've put them through they've just been amazing. Grip like crazy!! Have also dropped my fuel economy (through 2 tanks and using the air con on and off) to avg of 12.8L per 100. I was up around 14-14.5L before hand (live in maribyrnong and it's pretty stop start traffic)

The tyres you have on right now were the best I've had on the car since I owned the car. I could barely get wheel slip when accelerating from stand still, that's how good they were. I suppose if you are on a budget, then yeah, the Kumoh Ru31s... althought they are noisy once wearing out and are shit in the wet I found....
By the way, I forgot to give you the jack, and radiator cover when you picked up the car. Will give to you next time I see you.

would buy s/h over retreads any day....on a regular driver though not anything even slightly sporty

Retreads are only beneficial where large tyres are needed

goodyear f1s are a great wet tyre.... GSD3's they are called... not sure what that size would cost though. highly reccomended

I know someone running the Ecopia, I think he said it's a very comfortable tyre, but it's not very sporty, and if I recall correctly it understeered quite easily in the wet.
What do you fellows think about retread tyres?
Might be OK on a trailer but there's no way I would ever consider placing them on a passenger vehicle. Like drmunroe said, second hand tyres would be a much better idea if you had an incredibly tight budget.

Amazing standing start take off ability. Wet or dry.. Extreme braking performance.. Yet quite.. Roll on longer, low resistance. Very lightweight, improve acceleration.. What's not to like.. Oh yeah, the price...

Dirt cheap tyre.. Very good value. That's what I came from to the asym 2's ..
I had them fault under hard braking. But generally good. I would recommend them for the money they cost..
The good years will allow a slower car to be quicker than a faster car on budget tyres..;)

very very cheap! i think i paid 150$ a tyre for 20's , not the grippyest but very good wet performance for the price. but for 150$ a tyre for 20's can you complain?

After running the kuhmos and the atr tyres, while the kuhmo was better, I would take the atr again for the quite ride and price.. The kuhmos were better in the wet, but not by much, and they performed equally well in the dry.
I read some where, the kuhmos are made in a different place now to the tyre that built their reputation, but hey, it is the Internet.

i got mine for 280 bucks a tyre for a set of 4, so for what you get thats a very resonable price. You have to shop around though, i got quoted 350+ at a few places (thats on a 235/40 R18 though)

There is one tyre i WOULD'NT reccommend, thats "auto grip" they have no grip , wet or dry, very dangerous tyre for a spirited driver, probably ok for driving miss daisy

I have a set of 235/40R18 95Y Bridgestone Potenza S001 Tyres at home, I bought them to fit on my VS Commodore but because I haven't driven it for a while, I haven't been wearing out the tyres on it. So I have decided to fit the new tyres to my Magna when I get the new 18" wheels. I have been told that 235/40R18 should still be the correct size for a TJ Magna, and 95Y will be a good load rating.

I got some these in the standard 15" size on the recomendation of an old guy at work who has them in 17" on his commodore. He said they grip good but are a bit noisey. I found the opposite to be true. They are very quiet and comfortable, but the grip is poor in the wet and not much better when dry.
The Bridgestone Turanza GR-90 tyres I had on the front before were awesome when new (could go a round-a-bout crazy fast in the wet and bearly break traction), I forgot to rotate them for over 30,000km, which made them wear on one edge and not work as well in the wet, but they still beat the new Toyos.

I had them. Not for very bloody long. If you drive quickly in the wet, you will die.
Reported them to Fair Trading and the ACCC, tyres like that should NOT be on the roads. Not even kidding, my life was at risk, and that was when they were new.

I prefer pirellis... Got the pirelli p6 on my ts and they handle like a dream, only issue with them is they cost an arm and a few legs, but they last for ages and they're a good safe tire wet or dry fast or slow
