Hi i'm a newbie to AMC i have a TN SE carb/man white wagon. I have a good question 4 u all....
What are the differences in the head of of magna in requards to the cams & rockers?
I have 2 heads here- one off an efi- one a carb (which is currently installed in my magna). I noticed that my carb head has non-rolling type rockers- with tappets that are really hard to compress (no kidding!). The other rockers- from the efi head- are rolling type, these had tappets that were relatively easy to compress (but it had sat around for quite a while with the tappet cover off- so they may just be stuffed).
Would it be possible to fit these rolling type rockers in place of the non-rolling ones i have installed? Will different tappets be needed? does the cam from the head the rollers came from have to be matched with to rolling type rocker or will there be no difference in their "lobe" dimensions?
Cause last night i installed the rolling rockers onto my head- only exchanged the rockers not the complete rocker assembly- and now the car is a bit rattly in the top end- no performance difference (that i can feel), so i will swap them back today. But just out of curiosity- should it be done and can it be done?? (crow cams doesn't recommened the use of roller followers on the cams)

Any feedback will be appreciated :-)
I will be moving to brisy soon... yeaahhhh -more auto shops than i can poke a magna shaped stick at :bowrofl: .
Looking forward to visting the 150kw enjoyment zone  - just have to get the cash

roller rocker just reduce wear on the cam and the drag the valve train puts on the camshaft and concequently engine output. you might notice the power difference with a strong wind behind you. an electric water pump would probably make more difference. :D I think the roller rocker heads had valves with longer stems, and possibly more lift if there was more lift then the engine would breathe easier and this would increase performance.

they make a difference. hence why the majority of newer cars have them

I dont believe roller rockers do a single thing to enhance performance. They do allow different lift and duration values and reduce drag and wear and noise associated with the whole setup.
