G'day guys, I've recently completed a minor service on my magna which included oil filter and oil change, along with the air filter change. I removed one of the spark plugs to inspect the condition of them and also the part number so that I know the correct ones to buy next time. Ever since this I have had trouble with the idle when pulling up to an intersection, the car idles at around 450rpm then stalls. Around about the same time I had the battery out for quite a while, would it be that I haven't reconnected it properly and there isn't enough voltage?

When completing the service I also checked and inspected my fuses because I wasn't getting any water through my windscreen washers, subsequently the radio and cruise control are not working now, so I'm thinking that I've either incorrectly replaced the fuses or damaged them in the process?

Another issue, is inconsistent wear on the rear tyres. I was quite surprises at how far they were worn especially considering the outside of the tyres were brand new in appearance.

I have had a bit of experience with cars and working on them but the majority of this experience is on a thirty year old engine, so I was hoping any advice and insight would give me a head start in diagnosing these problems and having a successful solution.

Cheers in advance, Jacob.

Your idle problems are due to resetting your ecu when you disconected your battery. There is a learning procedure you can do that is listed in third gen section. But it will sort it self out after some driving.

If your rear tyres are wearing excessively on the inside edges it could be due to too much negative camber. Have you got stock springs or lowered springs on the rear? Lowered springs usually cause an increase in negative camber. Best bet is to get a wheel alignment.

Also, underinflated tyres (much more common than most realise) can result in excessive wear.

Ill give that procedure a try! Thanks for the advice.

It would make sense that it has been lowered because the front tow hooks are always hitting the ground, no matter how careful or slowly I take some driveways.

Are there any ideas on what is causing the problems with the windscreen washers, cruise control and radio? Cheers

Disconnecting the battery resets the ECU. The quickest way to re-establish the idle settings is to start the engine and let it idle (in Park or Neutral) - 12-15 minutes if started from cold, 7-10 minutes if started hot. However, even if you don't do this, the ECU will eventually re-establish the idle settings once it has accumulated enough time at idle with the engine at normal operating temperature.

There is a separate procedure that applies to the automatic transmission control to re-establish the shift settings, which is what another poster is referring to.

I went through the resetting the ecu steps and at first it didn't seem to make a difference. I then completed the journey from st.helens to launceston, which is about 170km and the idle issue has completely sorted itself out, which is a relief!

A wheel alignment along with four new tyres will be done on Tuesday, so only time will tell if the problem has been fixed in the case.

I'm still stumped about the stereo, windscreen washers and cruise control. I'll have to get my mechanic mate to have a look on the weekend.

First week back at work, it's going to be hard haha. Thanks for the help guys :)
