Is there a screw on the carbie to adjust the choke? Anyone got pictures?

If your trying to stop it running like a chaff cutter spewing out black smoke then you'll need to start at the choke butterfly.
My TM used to do this and by modding some links I stopped the butterfly completely closing which stopped it running so dam rich on cold start.

If this is your issue let us know and I'll put up more info although it was about 7 years ago.

For starters this should be in the First Gen section so I will move it.

On the side of the carb there is a round black thing with 3 screws holding it. By adjusting this you adjust the choke.

It is an aquired art, but with a bit of fiddling you should get it.
