If your car is from '97 it is most likely a TF Advance.
All the same, the best upgrade you can do motor wise is the 3.8 6G75 from the Mitsubishi 380. It utilises many similar parts. It is a simple swap and can be done by Mal at Mitsifix for a good price
Another option is the 3.8 but with the MIVEC heads from American Galants (I think? Someone correct me?) But it takes alot of effort!
3.8 MIVEC if you have a butt load of money handy and want to flog the crap out of V8's :P

hahaha. yes woob that would be nice! dont have heaps of cash otherwise yes that's EXACTLY what I would do!
Someone told me I could get a new engine from japan from a galant for like 2,000. And that it would fit easy. Are they talking out there ass?

The 6A12 will fit, as it was an engine found in the JDM models, however, you will need things like engine mounts, possibly new tranny as the current won't bolt up, drive shafts, ECU plus loom, the list goes on.
86_Elite was doing the same conversion, however never finished as the cost was outweighing the car and everyone he approached to do the conversion put it in the too hard basket.
Cheaper and best plug and play would be the 3.8.

Not worried too much about cost outweighing car. I bought it for 4,500. put about 4,000 in audio and visuals. Now focused on performance. Never going to sell and eventually pass on to son when it becomes a classic. hehehe

Why not a 3.5L if your car is currently only a 3.0L?
It will not cost too much and is a big upgrade, more so than a mere 500cc would suggest.

Spending 4,000 on audio gear I assume it is not intended as a track weapon. In this case I reckon a 6G75 will give you performance, enough for a low to mid 14 second 1/4, depending how much weight you have added with other gear.
Mivec and turbo engines etc are going to cost you more than three times as much to get someone to do it right.
If in the future priorities change you could always look at charging it then.

A 6G75 3.8 motor is definitely the best horsepower and torque increase and most reliable. The motor has to be "converted" to work in a magna so you're best bet is to buy one off Mal at mitsfix as he can prepare them to go straight in. Being a TF, you may need to get an 3.5L ECU and wiring loom?

3.8 + manual + extractors/exhaust + tune = more than enough power, and not that hard to pull off...

Do you need an engineer cert? thought you do because your going up more then 500cc, might just be a NSW thing though

As far as I am aware the NSW people who have done this simply got a blue slip, you are only going up 300cc in so far as what engine was offered as the largest capacity in that body
An 6G75 3.8 from mal is a huge gain in power and torque over your 3.0l would pull really well.

Ok wasn't sure that's how it worked, that's fantastic then!
