I'm looking at replacing the front shocks on my TJ. I'm biased towards a comfortable ride rather than sportier handling, what would be a good value for money shock absorber tuned for comfort? Are the generic ones sold on e bay any good? They have 100,000 km three year warranty. I also need to replace the cracked shock mounts, I'm thinking of removing them off a low mileage car.

I have no experience personally, but it seems almost unanimous of these forums that Boge shocks are unbeatable for the price. This would be my choice if I were replacing shocks.

Keep clear of Ultimas (they're yellow) which I believe are the ones on ebay. Ride is ok but mine make a squeaky noise over bumps (can hear it at slow speed with the windows down).

Check out this US site as sometimes there stuff is much cheaper than the eBay stuff for our cars.

Yup, Boges are highly regarded.
Also in a similar price point are KYBs. I had them and liked them, but the Boges are supposed to be better.

As above ^
KYB are excellent value for money, BOGE are slightly more expensive but you can tell the difference. Very nice ride.
Stay clear of ultimas and pedders.

Gabriel for me. Very comfortable ride, but I wouldn't take them to the track.

I have KYB Excel G's on my 380 and the ride is definitely a bit firm & jiggly (much more so than the stock shocks), so I'd look for something else if comfort is your top priority.

I have Boge, however im lowered on king springs, but I love my shocks even with destroyed bump stops.

I put Ultimas in my Verada and they seem ok, I had the squeaky noise too, its the bump stops moving up and down on the shaft of the shock, took me a little while to work it out, I just sprayed some WD40 on the shaft and voila the squeak stopped, never came back.

OK, I have had a multitude of combinations.
The shortest combo I've had is Pedders springs and shocks in my TH, that lasted 6 months after the springs sagged and the shocks got all floaty.
Then I've had Kings with KYB
Kings and Boge
Dobinsons and Boge, with this combo being the best.
If I was to go back to stock again I would go Dobinson SP with Boge. For me it provides the best in comfort with a bit of sportiness.
For me, Pedders won't be on my shopping list again.

Ok then Boge shocks and shock mounts, anyone know where I can get them at a reasonable price? Rock auto offers each kyb shock at around $80 and each Mevotech mount at $22 but with two shocks and the mounts the shipping cost is $229 which would bring the total to $429. I will be getting the mounts from them for sure since its a lot more cheaper than getting it here but I'm not sure on the shocks. Is the total cost still cheaper than buying locally?

Not sure if applicable, but the JDM Diamante has double wishbone front suspension, whereas the Australian Magna/Verada has strut type. Not sure what the US Diamante has so best to verify.

USDM is the same as ADM in suspension.

I sell both ultimate and Gabriel, Gabriel are my favored over ultimata however the ultimata do come with bump stops as well and of the many many sets I have fitted to everyday cars only 1 set have been replaced to date

Hello everybody,
I'm thinking about replacing front shocks and tops on my Magna TJ 2001 (during the last mitsu service I was told that tops must be replaced, but the quote was quite expensive).
What else do I need to replace shocks and tops? I mean parts. Do I need any mounting kits (funny rubber/plastic things) as well?
I visited the closest SupercheapAUTO store and asked about these parts. They have Gabriel shocks and tops (~$320 for 2 shocks + 2 tops). Could you advise if the Gabriel is OK? (I read forum and found that most people prefer KYB/BOGE, however I could not find them in AU and delivery from US is expensive).
P.S. I know about spring compressors. I used to do some DIY car work in my former country but here all these part's names in English are absolutely new for me :)
P.P.S. Sorry for my poor English.

What do you mean? Any good suspension store will be able to order Boge and/or KYB products for you.

Oh. I meant that I tried to find them on-line without success. I have no idea what suspension store is good in my area (QLD, Brisbane North-West).
Thanks anyway. I'll try to google for suspension stores in my area.

Again, any suspension store should be able to.
If you're after parts+fitting, I would try Fulcrum Suspension at Stafford.

Mal,
Slightly off topic, but any word on Boges/Sachs for 380s?
Last I knew it was possible to get rears, but still no fronts.
Then again I've been searching under Boge not Sach, so maybe they are out now.
