After long periods of high speed diriving accross the nullabour when bringing my new ride back to WA I noticed my VRX's idle wasn't as nice as it should be so I thought it was time to replace the plugs front and rear. As allways I went all out and got the very best I could get my little mitts on.
Six NGK Iridium Plus were my weapon of choice  At $17 each they weren't cheap however the rears needed platnums anyway and iridiums weren't that much more. So why not go all out.
After having them installed the result was clear. My idle is now PERFECT and so smooth I could rest a tennis ball on the motor and it wouldn't roll off. Being such a perfectionist when it comes to these things i notice every litle noise, bump and vibration and let me say I am more than impressed :D
On the performance side, you can definatly feel an increase in response. The throttle feels more lively and responsive which is great. I wouldn't be able to estimate how much power I gained by its certainly more lively accross the whole rev range.
All in all very impressed and i've also noticed economy has improved slightly too :D A definate reccomendation for all.

changing to new plug from old worn plugs is always going to feel better. should have bought standard bosch or nippon plugs, cheaper and just as effective

Q. Do Platinum Plugs make any difference.?
A. The almost overwhelming General Consensus on the F is a resounding "No". Waste of money. They CAN however aid hard starts if you have a fouling problem, but you should look into the cause of that problem first.

Arh! I'm glad there's another happy user of Iridiums.
no matter what people say, it made a difference with my car for sure! and it still feels good.

if it helps you's sleep better at night :P
You will find though its just because people put them in after using worn plugs that they make a difference. I also realize they might last longer, but not signifcantly enough to be 4x the price. you could get a whole set of bosch plugs for the price of one iridium

ps: i have tried plat, iridium and standard and i actualy found they were all the same, when pushing 12psi. not even the standard ones blew out. and a magna engine is alot less output per CC than a turbo engine.

AM:Good to hear your car runs perfect :)
Just changed my rear banks today with the NGK Iridiums, and fuel filter as well.
Also saw a tj black vrx lowered with gold rims there at Melville Mitsu too!
1st impression is engine is a little bit smoother, but still mostly got the rough idle.
But there is hope, the service dudes noted an audible noise from the fuel
pump which should be checked out. So since the car is still under warranty
its booked in again for Monday. They said they will probably take the fuelpump out
and inspect then fix/replace blah blah.
Fingers crossed :)

Yeah, considering the platinum and iridium both have the same ignitionability, I'm not surprised.

I have iridiums in my car and I used them in my old donk and I noticed a smoothness difference in the old one (I changed the plugs in the dohc before it went in, so I cant tell a difference) and the plugs that were in the old one were still in good nick.

The plugs were approx $17 each from coventrys and labour to install them at Melville Mitsubishi was $99.
I am wrapped with my new plugs, economy has definatly improved.
Slays, how good are the guys down at Melville Mitsu! I was very impressed, especially with their willingness to replace things under warranty. They replaced an engine mount in my VRX under warranty without a fuss (i didn't even know it was broken) dispite me having the K&N CAI kit installed (which technically voids the warranty).
The engine mount fixed my occasional clunking problem when taking off and now the car is perfect  I also had my gearbox oil changed to mobil 454 synthetic and its brilliant.
All i can say is yay! Go Melville Mitsu!
Craig - seriously bud spark plugs can wait! Get your car LOWERED!!!!

How does an air intake void the warranty on an engine mount??? I think there are many misconceptions about consumer rights when it comes to warranty (both manufacturer and statutory types), and this is the biggest one.

For starters yes, Blake would have had the same result from the std plugs, ... at first.
I also use the iridiums as they do last a lot longer and the amount of std plugs one uses over the life time of the iridium plug equates to about the same.
Im my old race engines I used to use a set of Platinum Plugs per meet, trued a std set one meet for comparison and lap times were dropping after about 15 or so laps.

AMEN! everyone claims amazing gains, its purely because they are changing from poxy old plugs to brand new plugs... not a sceric of performance is gained from these plugs

i don't see why people are tellin blake it was a bad idea!
Last i checked it was better to put premium unleaded in your car than unleaded, similar with its better to put iridium than normal. To an untrained person you don't feel the difference but there is one, otherwise they wouldn't be sold, plain and simple.
He just wants what's best for his car, in the end thats all that matters. :D

i rekon you can't compare a turbo engine to an NA engine.
and i know there is different types of spark plugs for different uses.
i also think that a turbo engine will use up spark plugs easier and faster than an Na engine.
but i still dont understand the high price. but then again i have a car with 250k km on the clock so i dotn think it would change something. :)
