Hi everyone,
As you may have noticed, I am on the hunt for a Raptor V kit for my car.
A few people from here have had them and I am just wanting to guage your experiences a bit.
What should I be looking out for when installing it?
How long do the bearings last?
How much are they generally worth?
What gains have you experienced? (dyno sheets would be wonderful)
What supporting mods have you done/should be done to make the most of it?
Am I right in going down the centrifugal path or am I better off getting a twin screw? (sprintex or otherwise)
I will be fitting it to my current 6g74 with a piggyback ECU and low boost (am currently in discussions with my tuner about what ECU would best suit my needs) and then in the future onto a worked 6g75.
All opinions welcome.
Cheers
Rob

Depends what you are after? Quarter mile time? Then Raptor is your blower. If you are after super early torque then its twin screw, but you will have to have kit made up as Sprintex no longner makes em and buying second hand is really risky. Twin screw blowers are pretty hard to intercool so at high revs you must run pretty conservative spark meaning torque drop at high revs, hence not so good as a drag car. On the other hand you get full boost at about 2000rpms, meaning awesome daily drive, while Raptor will only give its full boost at the redline, just when you have to shift. However since its intercooled your timing map is far more aggressive so overall power gain is significantly higher. My advise go with Raptor this is what i would do now, only baucause early boost Sprintex gives (that early power) is pretty much wasted on FWD as you break traction if you attempt to push your even slightly accelerator in 1st gear.
Dont buy piggy back dont waste your money, i know a guy who can reflash your factory ECU to run boosted setup.

Thanks for the reply Andrei.
I am not planning to intercool at this stage. I would be running about 4psi with stock internals for the time being. Just looking for more power down the quarter and for that oh so good whine.
I will be buying second hand and repairing/rebuilding if necessary. As far as I know raptor don't do the kits anymore. Can anyone confirm?

you are correct Raptor do not do kits anymore.
Installing isnt too hard, pipework can be a bit fun getting around the gearbox.
I sold mine, freshly rebuilt, with W2A intercooler for 3.2k. Mine had issues due to previous owner screwing it up, I had a full rebuild including new blower transmission which cost 1k, so that's really your worst case scenario.
People are right in saying that for power/quarter mine, Raptor ftmfw! It was just do so damn fun to drive with... and makes an awesome sound at the same time :D
Install is pretty easy with the Raptor, the hardest bit is deciding where the hell to locate your AFM! Lol
Also, if something does go wrong, Tim at Raptor is super helpful and really easy yo deal with, so you have peace of mind there!

Tim is a great help, I've had mine for a few years now and still going strong ( had bearings and shaft replaced). They are a great kit and its ashame they have been discontinued
