Hey all,

Im having an issue with the TR again, I stopped the car this afternoon and all was great she was running like a dream then I restarted after a stop of about 10minutes and it was idling so rough I thought it was going to stall.

Now its doing it all the time and when Im driving it feels like the car is surging or missing Im not sure how to say it.

I filled up with fuel the night before and was wondering if I have cought a bad batch of fuel or if there is something eles wrong. We did the head about 3 weeks ago and replaced all the gaskets.... It's running louder than before kind of sounds like a diesel now!

Im really at a loss can someone please help??

dont you have to re-tourqe the heads bolts after a while or risk blowing the gasket/cracking the head?

if it was bad fuel it would have played up pretty much as u left the service station. if the head is loose and blown the headgasket then there would probably be bubbling in the radiator or water in the oil. does it miss at revs?

Not necessarily. It would play up when the reminants of the old fuel had gone, and the new stuff flowed through.

Not necessarily. It would play up when the reminants of the old fuel had gone, and the new stuff flowed through.

When new fuel is pumped into the tank it mixes quite well with what's already in there, and what's remaining in the fuel lines is pulled through pretty much as soon as you crank the engine over. Depending how much new (bad) fuel he put compared to the old (good) fuel, the effects would be quite immediate.

Hey i had the exact problem it sounds like you've got. Go to www.fastmagna.com go into tech tips and then click on teething TR. follow instructions and i fixed my problem in about 30 mins. thats if it is the same prob. Its to do with a plug on top of the distributor cap. anyway the article covers it all. sounded a bit strange to me but it was easy and it worked!! Hope its all that is wrong with yours. Let me know how you go.

Thanks for the replies, there is no bubbling in the water, no milky oil, no overheating, but it does miss at idal, and when I am driving.

I have been told that the dizzy is leaking, and to me it seems to be a plug or lead, maybe a hose that has come off someplace, Im not really sure. I will keep looking over it and see if there is anything I can do.

Man, did you check out the Teething TR article i told you about on fastmagna.com? It was what was causing mine to stall, and idle rough. Its easy to tell if its the problem. Find your distributor cap, then locate the little plug on top of it, it will have a little rubber cover on it. over the years this can deteriorate just enough to let a little bit of moisture in, hence cause corrosion. To find out if this is the problem. find this plug on the distributor, then start your car and let it idle. Grab hold of the plug and wiggle it. if it misses or shakes or even stalls, then thats where the problem is. All you need is metho and an old toothbrush. Anyway i still suggest you look it all up on www.fastmagna.com. Sorry if i havnt been very clear or confused you. Let me kno how u go.

Hmm. I think that goes for all Astrons...

I shall be checking mine, although it's been really good for the past couple of days, apart from an unexpected encounter with a largish pothole.

Yeah thanks for the reply. I have been working for 3 days straight and have not driven the car or even looked at it so I have to get out there on sunday and see if this is the issue.

I hope thats all it is and there is nothing major wrong with it again, Im sort of thinking about going to a 3rd gen at the moment or an xr6-xr8 so I have a few options open to me.

hahahaha the exact same thing happened to me, drove, started running rough then....as i truied starting again it was like going up and down just trying to stay alive...
anyway...what was wrong on mine was my air flow senser plug, well check that and make sure that its plugged in....start ur engine, jiggle it and see if it runs ok. if it doesnt then i dunno, thats pretty much one of the only things thatll make a magna do that, there are some others, but from what u described, thats it.......
give it a go man....
