Hay guys
I've been thinking about a possible supercharged setup on my converted 3.8l magna. I've done some searching about parts to replace. I'm wanting to run 10psi plus. Talked to a performance mechanic on parts. He said rods pistons apr rod bolts head bolts and bearings if needed. Is there anything else needed? Or important? Does anyone know we're I can get 3.8l parts like these?
Cheers

Pistons and rods you will have to get from the states. Replace rod bolts. Head bolts should be ok up to 12psi. If you upgrade the head bolts, upgrade the head gasket. Bearings will be fine afaik but someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
You will need an aftermarket ECU or Interceptor if you want it to tune easily.
Fuel pump should be replaced with a bosch or walbro high flow unit, and you might want to get a decent fuel pressure regulator.
I'm doing the same thing mate. I'm still developing my list of parts to buy, so don't consider my list comprehensive.

What price are they selling those parts for over there? How much are chargers going for aswell?

Forgot about the injectors. Why valve springs?

if you have a 3.8, the injectors should suffice for low boost.
I haven't looked into this aspect yet.

Get a ECU second hand. Morristech Pro-Sequential Interceptor is what came in the kit for a raptor. Not sure about sprintex. Are you going centrifugal or twin screw? ECU can be had for $400 or less, maybe look into a Greddy eManage or the similar. Set aside about $700 for installation and tuning.
I am looking to spend less than 2k on the charger if it is mint. Less if it needs work.
Fuel pump can be had for about $100 on eBay.
Pistons and rods will set you back 2k. Maybe less if you get the parts from the same place and can get a deal.
Head bolts will cost you a couple of hundred.
FPR will cost you about $300. Get a Wideband oxygen sensor as well. $200.
Haven't looked into valve springs yet, haven't looked into injectors.
My plan is to run about 4-6psi initially until I have money to forge the bottom end. I will only be using a Walbro and Piggyback ECU at first. Then upgrade things as I go until I pull the engine out to be forged. Might balance the heads at the same time.

I would definately go larger injectors, hell even if you cam a 3.8 and leave it n/a you are at the very limit of the injectors...
Isnt fooz on here running a charger without opening the engine even once?

Just to clarify my above post, you NEED to REPLACE the head bolts when you pull the heads off.
However, stock head bolts will be ok until you hit high levels of boost, where you should consider upgrading them.

with regards to the valve springs if you go an aggressive cam , you end up getting valve bind

you don't have to replace them, in my build im sourcing some arp head bolts

Of course, because you are building a monster. A less aggressive build won't require forged bolts.

a nice cheap set would either be light green 7m injectors (315cc) or black one (440cc). i just brought a late model wrx sti set which are 565cc which can flowed easliey to around 700

There are benefits to be had with the WRX injectors. 380 ones are around 440 aren't they?

Oops. Well replace them then because 305 is going to be nowhere near what you need.

You wouldn't happen to own a Green TH Magna..?
A mate of mine was telling me that his mechanic did a 3.8 conversion in one a little while ago.
SuFz :ninja:
At 6.5psi with a side mount blower, I was running 440cc injectors at over 80% duty cycle. I never opened the engine up to replace anything and I was running just under 300HP ATW. At this point I was killing diffs and clutches with no issues to the engine.
Allow $1000 for initial tuning and adjustments etc, allow say $500 for unexpected costs, DO NOT pit the AFM anywhere near the blower or it won't work... and you might get lucky but personally I would expect at least 1 big failure in the first 6 months, such as the supercharger, diff, clutch etc.

I think driving style would impact the above.
Woob, did you have a LSD?

what the point in having a charger if you dont want to use the power? :D
No LSD, cooked a shitty diff so to be expected really. But yeah I wasn't overly nice to my car, I actually killed the diff when I was running NA lol
