Hi all,

I have purchased a 2000 TJ VR-X and have notice a water leak above the front exhaust manifold - are there any welsh plugs around that region??

I also seem to have an issue where the thermo fans are not kicking in..?
The TCL OFF is displayed on the dash constantly.
The air-conditioner wont engage - doesnt sound like the relay is kicking in (yet to get a test lamp onto it) but i am doubtful that power is getting to it.
The centre trip computer displays "S" - then you set is to S and then 3.5L and its fine.... until you turn the ignition off.. then straight back to "S"...

There seems to be a few electrical issues going on at the moment..

The heater core has been bypassed - so from what i have read i get to go through the joys of replacing it. From what i have read if the heater core has blown or if there was a substantial enough leak - it is possible that water has got onto the ECU??

Could a wet ECU be causing these issues??

Any info you guy can help me out with would be tops..

was the car purchased with RW and safety certificate? some of those issues should have been picked up during an inspection.

If you bought it from a dealer, take it back.
The bypassed heater lines is a roadworthy issue as a heater/windscreen demister needs to be operational if fitted.

As far as the electrical issues go, check all your fuses and relays first.

Sounds like time to book the car in

There are no coolant pipes in that area, we can pressure test to check where exactly water is coming from

Trip chomp issue is fuse in yellow holder in the engine bay fuse box

purchased privately. no RWC. knew it would need work - but a TJ VRX with a straight body for $850??
even if i have to spend a couple grand on it ill be happy (helps that my dad is a mechanic and has taught me a fair bit.)

by the sounds of some advice i have received elsewhere it may be a head gasket - so may pick up a new engine from the wreckers.. (out of my old TJ VRX which is still there after i was t-boned..)

Thinking all the parts i need - id be better off buying the complete wreck and picking the meat from the bone!

$850 is a pretty good deal if all you really need to do is swap out all the stuff in the engine bay.

Plan is:
buy the other wreck (hoping it will be less than $1500),
swap out engine. (going to give it a good flush out and clean it right up and give it a thorough servicing)
swap out wiring loom.
swap out the heater core (current heater core is bypassed)
going to swap out the dash (wreck has climate control and i need to replace the heater core so thought i might as well do all that whilst im in there!!)
swap out the cluster (currently auto will go to manual)
swap out all interior - wreck has done half the k's and interior is still in excellent condition.
swap out ECU / BEM.
install headliner, sunvisors and handles (currently none of these are in the car.)
wreck currently has all the manual trans stuff - except the manual trans.. so i have to try and track one of them down.

hoping to have all this done over the next 4 weekends.. fingers crossed anyway!
