Hi guys just noticed tonight that when idling the car the car makes a really loud ticking noise but when I push the clutch in the ticking noise goes away. Walking around the car it sounds like it is coming from the passengers side.

Any ideas?

Could be a shagged input shaft bearing or flywheel chatter?

Would this present any other symptoms?

Could be anything. Pushing the clutch in may reduce vibration in the car generally. Is there any vibration or poor pedal feel in the clutch? it could be just something loose somewhere.

Hi dreggzy and thanks for your help. There has been no change to the feel of the clutch nor any vibrations when pushing or extending the clutch pedal.

An aircon problem arose yesterday, which by doing some research here sounds like it could be the air mix motor. I am no way technically minded so please persevere with me. What basically happened was a loud popping noise like a rubber diaphragm being sucked in and then all the air stopped coming out of the vents, a loud humming noise is now coming from the passenger side, near where the glovebox is.

Thanks for your help

Mine has done this for years. I've searched but have not come up with anything definite. It is a little better with synthetic oil which I replaced a few months ago. It is either something to do with the pull clutch or possible large tolerances in the input shaft or gears rattling at idle. When we purchased our car it only had 76,000km on it and it was rattling then.

Thanks for your input I will get it looked at on Monday as well as the air con problem that has developed.

Make sure whoever looks at it actually knows what causes the rattle. Don't let them pull it apart as an exploratory expedition. You don't want to have a reconditioned gearbox that still rattles. As I said earlier, you are not the only one with the rattle and you will find old threads discussing the same issue with no definite answer to what it is.

If you do find out what it is, please let everyone know.

I will be having my uncle look at it who was a former Mitsubishi engineer. And yes I will share his thoughts.

As mentioned previously, I went and did some work on the car today, from what we can work out this noise could have something to do with a wearing pressure plate. Nothing to cause concern.
