Hi Guys,

I haven't attempted this yet (not sure if I'm brave enough yet either; but it does look pretty easy) - the guy's video shows a Quick DIY auto trans flush. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsdPAadc9fY)

If anyone tries it - or can see any issues let us know?

Cheers

Steve

Just my 2c.. I'd rather pay a qualified technician to do the job when it comes to my transmission.. a method that's never failed me yet.. for a couple of hundred bucks every couple of years it's worth every cent. That's just me though.

I did the magna and the pajero on my holidays downloaded the Workshop Manual's for both and had a crack at it and i must say its a very easy thing to do once u get the hose off BUT use genuine Mitsubishi auto trans fluid, the previous owner of my pajero used some other fluid and it had a slight shudder but since a flush and a refill all but gone.

I can see your point here hyper - and I guess it COULD happen again depending on what the fluid was that was used and whether it had the same effect Magna; - but the chances?????

I really want to put synthetic in there to give our tranny the best chance at a long life for us? ;)

Put in what ever you want but if you really wish to give it long life use genuine OR real spIII fluid, not just a compatible blend

Valvoline make a transmission fluid called Maxlife that is compatible with transmissions needing SPII, SPIII, all DEXRON types amongst others.

How is this even possible considering the vastly different makeups of the different fluids?

In the first instance I reckon I'll go chat to some Pro's - we have these guys close by Fluidrive (http://www.fluiddrive.com.au/) - they also happen to be the RACV agents for the area and have a workshop that is flat-out busy; such that it's hard to get an appointment! I think their advice would be solid.

Because we've got a Roadworthy to be ready for + some brand new rubber and whatever else the roadworthy picks up - I may not be able to afford the full flush straight-up; so maybe I'll do a half and half drain in the meantime. Thanks for all the great input.

Cheers
