View Full Version : Disengaged Auto Transmission

Hi Everyone.

The automatic transmission on my 1998 TF Magna Station Wagon is not engaging into gear, or if so very occasionally. When it was driveable, the car might stay in gear for a short time. Once disengaged, the auto display on the dash kept flicking between the gear light & neutral. Initially the car was driveable in '2' but since getting it home it wont engage at all. The vehicle still starts okay & there is no noticeable noise or vibration.

My initial thought is the 'torque converter'.

Could anyone please advise on any other likely cause.

With thanks.

Pete

Oil pump in trans has broken, cheapest option is to replace it as rebuilds are expensive

MadMagna.

Thanks!

Does replacing the oil pump in the transmission require
much work?

Been towed to mechanic, a Magna specialist, for a look tomorrow.

Have heard good things about his work & apparently
he has 100+ Magnas in his yard so I am hoping I can
be fixed without too much expense.

Also I am looking to replace my front seat as I have
a dodgy back & my current seats are not so flash.

Do you recommend any particular model for firm
seating that can be easily fitted into my TF Magna?

Is it possible to put in 380 seats as I find these
to be v.suitable?

Please advise.

Pete

Oil pump is a complete rebuild

I am not aware of any other magna specialist in Vic with 100 magnas in their yard so all the best with the repair
