View Full Version : TJ Exec Weight Reduction possible?

Hey all, new to these forums but been a lurker for a while.

I am currently the proud owner of a modded TJ exec and do intend to race it in the near future, there are just some components of the car I'm a tad apprehensive about removing and need advice on the topic.

1.Can I remove the entire cruise control system with no repercussions on my car?

2. I only want to be able to blast warm air into my windshield for when it fogs up every now and again, so I was wondering:

- what parts of the AC system can go?

- Can the climate control and sensor (among other things) be taken out if I only want to use air heated under the hood?

3. My car already is stripped down internally, but are there other electronic components/ redundant components of the car that can be taken out without affecting the drive?

4. Thoughts on going for fibreglass bonnet and boot?

1: yes
2: compressor, condensor, evaporator, pipes, tx, receiver drier, and electronics. i think your heater core and box will have to remain to legally achieve blowing "hot air" on the wind screen. you will just need a basic fan switch and a lever for hot/cold air. (you will need to get the gas reclaimed by a licensed professional)
3: i cant give you figures, but if you have climate and cruise then perhaps there are gains to be had from installing a base model wiring harness. (i'd assume that even 500g would be an over estimate though).
4. im looking into this myself but from what i hear they tend to become a guillotine in an accident (although i have yet to get an answer on whether fine wire mesh reo would address this)

RE: Bonnet. The original has a designed in weakness line so the whole thing folds up rather than gets shunted back through the windscreen at neck level.
Any replacement would need to do the same in a frontal impact, for safety. Keep the frame but use a thin light weight aluminium or fibreglass skin?

If you don't want it to stay street legal, you can always strip the interior and use a lightweight seat. Standard seats are surprisingly heavy.

good to know (should have dawned upon that solution :ninja: ) my plan is for carbon. but the question also remains of embedding fine wire mesh across the crumple zones to hold it together where it may break up.

Why reinforce the crumple zones? They are there to protect the passenger cage from intrusions.

i realise that but the idea is to allow them to bend and break up at that point without breaking apart

I don't suppose there exists a list of the weights of particular components of a magna? Seems like a stretch!

i would get a 50mm holesaw and start punching holes in everything that is not classed as structural, inner door skins for example....
