Hi guys,

could someone point me in the right direction re noisy air con pump, the pulley & the friction plate became real noisy after an engine degrease, everything works fine, just noisy!
the friction plate appears to be impregnated with bronze or something, or what ever was protecting it has worn,
what stops the metal surfaces making noise?

Is it noisy when the air con is on or air con is off

Possibly washed some oil or grit into the air gap when you degreased the engine and now it's slipping when engaged. Pays to keep degreaser and water away from the aircon compressor and alternator area.
As above - noisy when off or air con switched on?

thnx Mad Max & Magna, key question,, when switched off, i managed to remove the pulley assy & the bearing was dry, noisy and rough, put some grease in it & refitted it made a little difference, really needs replacing, $65 for the bearing!!!

the contact surfaces plates behind the pulley, are they meant to be ,metal to metal looked as though it impregnated with bronze or something??

Also have moderate oil leaking from rocker covers particularly the rear one,
is there anything to be aware of when removing the manifold etc or is it just straight forward,

there was some mention of gasket types in the forum,
is there a preferred type & supplier, are other gaskets or items required that should be changed at the same time,

have you seen a 98 service manual on this site??
