I had this issue since I bought my 380 6months ago. The key needs to be pushed into the barrel so hard before you crank it. otherwise it wudnt even crank. it came with only 1 key which had a broken fob.. so i replaced the shell and put a new one to save my ass from buying a new key $$$.

Now that I have been doing this hard for a while the key broke inside the barrell. So now the key is off the fob. the buttons on the fob is still wrking. But the transponder chip has to be near the igtion to start. I am managing to start it somehow at the moment.

I think I need is a new barrel with keys. i didnt know how much it costs. Its funny that you get different prices for same part from differnt Mitsubishi Dealers (Newstead &Aspley). One was $540 and other was $450. LOL... lets go with Newstead... I rang up "bits of messy" and asked about parts. They said a new barrel with 3 keys is about $450 and labour 3hrs ($128).

What do you guys think I should do? Any helps appreciated.

Given ur barrel is sus the $450 for barrel plus 3 sounds good to me!

Is not the barrel but the switch behind, is common on all 380. Outlander and cj lancers

If you can get the key shaft out ok get new keys and you can go from there and will need new switch of course

Hey Guys, I was wondering if the cheapest way to go would be a push button start. Because i can still get my key to turn the ignition on. And installing a push button will ease the job and save me dollars.

If you're looking at push button, remember that some keys have chips in them (I know the 3rd Gen Magna/Verada's do) so you MAY need to bypass this.

hey Sufz, the current conversion I have in mind is just to add a push button with keys in ignition ON. but yea I understand if I am doing a total conversion to just push button start then I need to bypass the chip. but i am afraid the resale value for car wud be affected upon the time of sale if i do a total conversion to just "PUSH START". lets see how this goes...
