Well I got tired where I original put my UHF radio and was chasing a factory spot to put it. I finally found a UHF radio kit that will fit in a din space. Since most verada/magna came with a double space where the radio is, I decided to chuck my UHF there.

I used the wood grain surround off a Verada that will get a colour change shortly :)

The UHF Radio is GME TX3500 the din kit is a MDB001, I know that I'm not allow to advertise sales or eBay but the eBay store I bought off is here: Autoelec (http://stores.ebay.com.au/autoelecau?_rdc=1)

I can't say how good the radio is but has a lot of good features and on par with my old one. I though I just show you guys a different place to put your UHF radio :)

Cheers Sparky

Looks good sparky.

What did you do for the aerial? I want to fit one to my TF. Possibly under my stereo.

Do you know can i split my current am/fm antenna and use that? Or does it have to be a seperate aerial?

Has to be a special aerial, I mounted mine on my boot lid as easy to get a cable back there than through the fire wall lol

if you mount the Aerial on the side of the front guard you are more then likely going to get a tonne of engine noise through the car. Must say great spot to mount it and I suppose if you have one that you can make i8nto a din size it would be easy for the 3rd gen as well.

If you don't use your FM radio, or can source a smaller antenna for in the cabin or something, it would not be hard to adapt to use the standard aerial hole. You can basically just take it right out of the body and you get a nice clean hole to play with. (lol)

good luck with that :P mounting would be the worst thing to do ever through an aerial hole.

Your radio setup looks good Sparky. It all blends in.
Would be good to be able to do that with a 3rd gen too.

I also like where you put the antenna. Did you run the cable down the side of the car under the door kick panels/carpet??

I have also seen some UHF units that take up a full DIN pocket.

Yours looks nice and neat Dave.

I run the aerial cable down left hand side of the car. Under the kick panels. Up behind the back seat and into the boot. Job done.

You can by utilising the dash pocket under the stereo unit, Some of the companys make the kit so they can be mounted in a din size pocket. The other way to go and keep as much room and possibly the dash pocket is to use a remote mounted head as well.

There also UHF that have all the tunning knobs and display on the handset and you can mount the main part away. But if the cable breaks it not cheap to fix or replace :)

I put mine in the same spot in my TS Verada Touring wagon when I was going to Townsville, and the UHF was a single DIN one aswell, they don't look too bad mounted there, I mounted my UHF aerial on a "S" bracket which was bolted to the R/H guard and ran the wiring down under the carpet and through a rubber gromit in the firewall which also had the UHF positive and the spotties relay switch running through it aswell with no hassles

i know this is an old thread but i was wondering whether it might be possible to mount an aerial in to the standard fm antenna location on a TH wagon (not sure if the wagon would make a difference from a sedan) it would be a nicer look then the aerial mounted to the bonnet (half tempted to have a play on the donor car i have to see what could be done)
