OK, I have decided on this, a few of you know that i was thinking of saving up to buy a TF, but i couldn't part with the car i have now. So,
I will now be saving up to put in the TF engine into my TR, i know Killbilly has done the 12 V6 to 24 V6 conversion, was wondering if you could give me any tips? and what things did you have to replace?
If anyone can tell me and EXACT list of replacement things i need, including a rough price estimate i would be very happy. Include a price for both manual and auto trans cuz i'm thinking of re-sitting my P's to get a manual license(thats if i need to replace the trans, which i'm prob thinking i do).

This will most likely happen mid next year sometime, if i have enough money left over i'm going to get a decent exhaust system put in as well. If anyone has done this before any tips would be great, if not, I'll be the first :D. It would be awesome to have sleeper car, seeing those commy*****s get owned ;).
I have a rough idea on what i need to change but i'm sure there are other things, things i think need replacing would be :-
Engine (lol obviously)
Trans
ECU and engine management system
Fuel pump
Engine accessories (like spark plugs and leads etc.)

Also when the time comes if there are any magna guys here who know what they're doing who might want to volinteer to help out? ;) I dont wanna be centre of attention but we could have a cruise after its done and welcome the new car in with the rest of his family :P.

Yeh so i've crapped on a fair bit hopefully someone understood, any help would be great,

Leigh

A TE+ 24 valve engine won't fit your car as they are mounted 180 degrees opisted to your setup. Killbilliy's is an import 24 valve DOHC, better :D

Leigh the engine I put in (as stated above) is the imported DOHC 24v 6G72 3.0l V6 non turbo

It is in the LS Diamante, 3000GT/GTO, Dodge Stealth and I think the Avenger (not sure about that one)

If you are thinking of this conversion, remember that your engine mount will have to change and then be engineered. Also you will need to shorten your LH driveshaft as it will be too long (You'll need to source some V6 driveshafts, I'd just get new ones and then shorten the LH one)

The TF engine (SOHC 24v 6G72 3.0l) Will not go in without stupid amounts of work, so I wouldnt bother. And the DOHC is a superior motor anyway ;)

My advice: Get a front cut with all the loom and ecu with it. Do any work you want to do to the motor before it goes in (I would've done so if I had the cash) and enjoy :)

thanks kill billy, change of plans, i will be converting to a DOHC not the SOHC. When the time comes i'll be asking you heaps of questions :P

No worries mate.

The only person other than myself that has done the conversion is Craig Harrison (That I know of) and he went from 4cyl to the DOHC 3.0l. The isssue with the driveshafts is what he told me to be wary of (as he wasnt sure if the SOHC-DOHC conversion would yeild the same problem, but it doesnt)

Do you know what types of engines would be suitable for a 2nd gen carby? The VR4 turbo engine?

I'm still curious as to prices and things i need to change.
I dont want to pay over $3000, is this possible? with the transmission do i need a new auto or just a rebuild? or will the old one do? (i woulda thought the old one might crack under the power?).
Also what about stuff like radiator and hoses and idle motors and ****. Also, being a student and having nearly no money, i'm probably going to have to rely on volunteers pretty heavily unless labour can come in under the $3k. Is anyone out there willing to help out? even if its just offering discounts or cheaper prices would be great. Also is it easy to find this DOHC engine here in aus? is it expensive to import and engine from america? so many questions, :).

They're expensive and hard to find Leigh.

www.blairs.co.nz sometimes has them in stock..but no transmission, no ecu and no wiring loom.

totally dude, i'm not trying to bring you down, but i believe your almost clutching at straws trying to get a convert for that much!!, just a straight reco motor will cost almost 2 g's off the shelf, and you want labor, better , rarer motor and ecu/wiring loom as well, save you money, and do it properly!!

p.s. it is still worth a try, isn't it?? ;)

I think i may have to start saving :(, ill keep a look out for the engine, i really appreciate all you guys helping out, I hope i can get it done. I was also thinking the turbo option, someone reckons i can get an astron turbo kit for $2800 with everything i need bolt on to get roughly 110kw ATW, but my engine has done over 270k kms so a turbo might destroy it, unless i get a rebuild :doubt:
