An intermittent warning light display has happened a couple of times in the last month. Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this combination. Car starts easily runs well and has not stopped- while driving the battery warning light and the SRS warning light and I think it might be the handbrake light over on the other side of the steering column flash 3 or 4 times within a 2 second period- at the same time the aircond/ blower shuts down completely. Any thoughts from the wealth of experience and knowledge out there- car is a TL with 107k km on it.

Possibly a dead battery but also check your battery terminals are tight acid-free. Then check the positive lead (thick red one) that goes onto the alternator, check the nut is tight. Check the 2-pin connector that goes into the alternator as well. If that doesn't fix it, probably need to replace the alternator regulator. Or could be other things like faulty ECU etc?

I had pretty much the same issue. I thought it only happened on bumps or hard cornering. One day it became permanent and I could smell battery acid. The charging voltage was +18V. One reconditioned alternator later, all better.

Yes. I have had this twice. The placement of the alternator is bad and get coocked by engine heat. The first was replaced under warranty as it died after 3 years. The replacement died last year and I had it reconditioned as a new one costs way too much. Also, this is not just an AWD thing. FWD magna/verada has this issue as well.

Thanks for this info- knew someone on the forum would have experienced this sort of thing. It is becoming more frequent- certainly not constant yet- and that is where the main problem is- guaranteed that if I take it somewhere to get checked the problem will not present and the auto spark will say- couldn't find the problem mate- and thats $86 to check it to find nothing. Guarantee as soon as I drive it away the problem will present again- take it back - nah theres no problem with it.

So more than likely an alternator. Looks like not much space to get it out.

Just get the alt replaced before you fry your ecu as happened to one of my customers recently. They had this issue now and again, was an overcharge and they decided to just leave it until it became a problem a few weeks later it became a problem when the car just died as there was a spike through the system and half the electrics have since been replaced
