Hi there all master and amateur auto electricians alike,

Driving my 2007 DB3 this evening, I found that the dash lights (speedo, fuel, tacho etc) Multi Function Display and the back lights to the climate control knobs would dim and then brighten back to their regular output?

As it is happening to all 3, I believe it may not just be the case of replacing a bulb. Is there a wire back there somewhere that needs some electrical tape over it?

I have an aftermarket Alpine head unit which was seemingly unaffected

Thanks again guys

Mick

I had this happen to mine ages ago. I took it in to Mitsubishi, they couldn't find the fault. One night when it happened I twisted the switch that dims the dash lights from bright to dim and back again and it hasn't done it again since....

Yeah definitely sounds like a problem with the dimmer pot, maybe a bit of dust or dirt in there. Twisting it from high to low brightness a few times should solve your problem. If it persists, a bit if electrical contact cleaner sprayed in there should fix it... But don't know how hard it is to access.

It may well be integrated into the cluster which could involve pulling the cluster out and partially dismantling it (just guessing)... in which case you might want an auto elec or instrument specialist to do it.

If moving it through the whole range doesn't work, perhaps ask Mal if the whole cluster has to come out to access the dimmer.

Asked a few guys around work (mostly Holden guys) and they immediately said "dimmers f**ked' - so I guess i'll give that a go tonight.

Cheers for the quick replies!
