Hi Guys,

My car key ignition barrel is screwed up and it doesnt crank if i turn passt acc and ignition. I have to push theh key in really hard before I crank it t start it. ANd by doing that everyday in 5months ina row I broke one of my keys. The key broke off inside the ignition from the fob.

So I decided to install a push button for starting. Turn ignition ON > then push the button to start instead of cranking.

Anyone has done this addon on their 380's before? ANy thoughts or tips on installation?? pls share.

Prem:hmm:

nah.. still needs the key to turn the ignition on. then only the button activates... the key barrel sensor needs the key in the there to read the chip..

You could go all the way and get a full kit where the key is bypassed and replaced with a sensor key and ignition blocked up (like Ford Focus ST) and then have a push start button installed somewhere. Should work just like other push start cars... but it would probably be cheaper to fix the ignition problem. (Would look cool though)

yea like you said Grinco, I'd love to change the whole system to push button start. but then again..im after a cheaper fix for now.. need some time to find a second hand set of keys with barrel..

. need some time to find a second hand set of keys with barrel..

Except the different keys won't work when the ECU tries to read the different chips. Nor will they lock/unlock your doors.

If you have a closer look at the problem, you may find that the problem isn't in the mechanical workings of the barrel, but in the ignition switch which is hanging off the back of the barrel (IIRC). Mal has spares . . .
