Ok this may be a silly question but it has been noted a couple of times that the factory stereos are already pretty good and so I am assumping it isn't necessarily worth it to replace the 380's factory speakers with cheap (entry level) aftermarket ones as.
My end goal will be to run an active front set up but that is a while off.
So I can either fit some Alpine Type R/JBL GTO type speakers and a 2 channel amp now and then upgrade everything later or...
Spend a little more on either a better 4 channel amp and utilise the factory speakers or...
Get better quality components and run them off the HU.
To be clear an active set up will also require me to upgrade the HU or get an external active crossover so to outlay for the full system in one go is not a financial reality at the moment.
To be fair it is also unlikely that I would ever get around to a active set up if I have purchased replacements for each part of the system already (Short arms and deep pockets!!!)
I have found some 2nd hand MB Quart passive cross overs which have up to -6db tweeter adjustment and allow bi amping so I could split the signal to the 4 channel amp and use the gain adjusments f/r to suit the different drivers. This would enable me to invest in an amp now that I won't have to replace later. This is pointless if the factory speakers won't handle anything at all above the factory power and/or utilising a different x-over is likely to sound terrible.
I will be rewiring to all speakers and sound deadening the doors anyway. Is it worth while attempting to amp the factory speakers? Has anyone done so already?
#I would not look to run the gain anywhere near full on the factory speakers so if the amps are not stressed and clipping/distorting I am hoping the speakers would hold together.
Just an idea anyway. Anyone got two cents to share?
