I want to swap my standard black gear shift indicator panel with a chrome one. I can see that the console area pulls out for some access. Has anyone else done this before and can offer any tips or best practice on gaining entry to lower section of gear shift for easier unplugging of original panel.

i did myn today i should've taken pics but it isnt to hard at all. Remove the gear shift by either prying out the button on top or removing the screw from under the chrome ring depending on which model you have. Remove the centre console tray with the cup holders then the centre console there is two screws where the cup holders would be, two under the tray in it and one on each side of the centre console that if you slide the front seats fully forward you will see them. Find the four screws that are holding the base plate on around the shifter remove them and be careful as you lift it all away of the wires that are there i just removed the plug to make it easier and to put it back together is the reverse its really easy i did it on the fly so to say. Any problems just ask

TL/W have a screw at the front of the shifter instead of under the button.

thanks for the info, I had a bit of a look myself today and saw all the screws you mentioned but did not try to remove the centre console until I asked a few questions on here. Looks like i'm heading in the right direction so thanks again.

I went the other way, stripped the peeling crap chrome one in my Verada and painted it with Exhaust Black spray can. Very durable finish it has turned out to be and it nearly matched other matt black on the dash. You will regret changing to the chrome one even if it doesn't peel because the sun shines off the chrome straight into your face.
