Is not all that uncommon, will not do any harm, if you wish to seal it up with some RTV to stop rubbish getting in there. Also find the reason this happened, most likely a cluch has let go in the past

I may have done this to a motorbike gearbox once... messy :eeek: . Cost next to nothing to be welded back up. I'd weigh it up; cost/effort versus necessity versus personal preference for not having holy parts :P

As much as its probably not a crucial repair, my personal preference would be to fix it (weld it up).
