It’s time to replace front & rear shocks on my 2001 Magna TJ Sedan.
I have read a lot of posts on this forum & intend to go with the many recommendations & install Boge shocks.
My Magna is lowered with Pedders springs (2080’s) & Monroe Gas shocks. Please don’t crucify me over the springs as they were installed by the Dealer when I purchased the car new.
It now has 90,000km’s, needs new tyres & bump stops are shot. I will be replacing them too with a wheel alignment when all done.
I won’t be changing springs as it is not used for any spirited driving, have other toys for that.
I would like to ask a couple of questions regarding installing Boge shocks in a lowered Magna.

Is there only one type of shock available for TJ’s in Boge?
Are the part numbers below the correct one’s to use?
Part No: 32-M46-A (Right Front Shock)
Part No: 32-M47-A (Left Front Short)
Part No: 28-B53-A (Rear Shock)

I apologize if there is a post explaining this but I was unable to find this information.

Many thanks for your help.
Cheers

Righto, I thought he only did Koni.

Anyway, in Sydney, there are plenty of Boge distributors. Average price is about $225-$250 each. Shop around because some places will give you a deal (free installation, discount etc) if you buy a pair.

Why would you buy from Australia when the same parts from the USA are so much cheaper.

Warranty and service is a pretty good reason.

Why, warranty, Service, Issues with fitting if you get the wrong parts, cost for dampers will cost more in freight than the parts cost just for a few reasons not to mention supporting local business as well.

As for price, again why would you pay $200 ea plus thus $800 from Sydney retailer when you can get them from me for $520 plus shipping????

Added to this I always love how people ASSUME what brands and parts I deal in, I do a lot more than some people think. As far as suspension goes I deal in Boge (now Sachs) and Koni as my main lines, I also do several other mainstream brands as well upon request.......

Are Boge/Sachs shock absorbers better suited for standard or lowered springs?

Both, they are used in many euro cars for both sports and std daily cars, same with our cars

If you can get them for $600 installed then good luck with that given they are not cheap nasty products thus a sercice centre would be charging around $80 tops for around 3 hours labour, I would be highly suss on the quality of work or the fact that you are even really getting Boge. Not trying to insult here but I really think that the figure of $600 is been pulled out of thin air and is not an informed figure at all. $840 including fitting is quite a reasonable price

I'm talking Sydney prices from a local suspension shop. Installation is generally discounted heavily if you buy a full set. Then they sell you a wheel alignment, full suspension check etc to get the price up a bit (although necessary).

I have them in my XI. They ride firmly but the damping is excellent. Not harsh at all. But I should add, I am not a 12yr old whose only priority is counting the marks on damaged side skirts while goating "Dude! I like totally got more bottom outs that you!" Cars are not meant to be that low. Things begin to break.

I had them in my sportswagon and plan to put some in the legnum when the current ones die.
Great for both lowered and standard height cars. $600 for shocks + installation may sound alright, but as stated above they will surely sell you more stuff (alignment, etc)

How firm are they exactly?
Especially for someone who wants comfort primarily, just replacing worn out shocks so that it is safe to drive?

Cheers dreggzy, yea I know sounds really tempting but I do agree with Mal on this one.
840 was final price anyway inc alignments, plus I trust their work, when time comes to do it I just need to decide whether to do strut top mount bushes at same time (121000Km only on clock at moment)

I did a car here last week, put in the Boge (sachs as they are now known) with the std springs and new bump stops, customer loves the car and remember these come with a lifetime warranty (not against abuse of course) so are good bang for buck as well.

They are firmer but also do dampen properly, the issue with KYB is they are over gassed, they may be firm on the compression stroke but are way to reactive on the de compression and this is what leads to the harsh feel

Madmagna, can you explain this lifetime warranty?
Does this mean if in 100,000km/10 years they wear out, they will be replaced?

I can vouch for that Mal, fitted KYBs to my completely stock TF sports & wasnt a fan of them, ended up feeling almost as firm as my TJ with 18s & kings!
