Alternator Belt Replacement. Magna 98 4cyl.
http://www0.xup.in/exec/ximg.php?fid=18070740Hi all,

i replaced the alternator belt but to do this i had to remove the main belt.. when i had both belts back on i went to tighten the tension bolt for the main belt and the bolt snapped... Its a left hand thread bolt.

better to go to a scrap yard to get the correct one of i can track one down or go some where else?... repco and bunnings etc dont sell left hand thread bolts..

Any idea's where to get one from...there is a pic on here of it will try and find..

cheers Mitch.

P.S have tried calling every wreckers in Perth and Mistusbishi want to sell me the bolt with a new pully for 300, all i need is the LH bolt..

have also called 5 wreckers today!!

Call more, if not you'll have to get one made up. Call interstate wreckers if you must otherwise reach out and see if any members would help you out buy going to a self serve wreckers and posting the bolt up to you.

Have you called Mistubishi for a price? That would've been my first call for a special/unique bolt like this. Even if it was only to compare prices from the wreckers.

Try this LINK (http://www.autoparts.com.au/) to Australia's online parts locator.

Its bailed me out before.

Its an online form that gets sent out to auto wreckers in Australia with your request for parts.

Try, Coventry Fasteners ----- TEA transmissions ----- then eBay as UK suppliers often have unusual items. Also, just Google 'left-hand bolt".

Wow cheers man, ill pay 30 bucks for it if you can...Its the tensioner bolt for the main belt which is the belt next to the alternator belt.. I have a pic of it on the first page..

It would take 2 secs to rip out...2 bolts undo as follow.

1st one is the securing bolt.
2nd is that actual belt tension bolt which is the one i need.

Easy does it tiger :P

I still got to come through with the goods.

As for the cash, hang on to it. This bolt couldn't be any more than loose change.

Just got to check - the bolt is stripped, not the carrier? I'd hate to see you get the bolt only to find out the body it screws into was buggered.

Sorry didnt make it to the wrecker this morning. Going on my way to work tomorrow. If you pm me your address ill get it off to you in express post.... Providing i can find one

MadMax

Why not just remove the stripped bolt, put the belt on, get some leverage on the pulley to tension the belt, and do up the centre bolt?

That's what I would do to get the car back on the road, temporarily, anyhow.

(He probably needs both the bolt and the part it bolts into, both will be damaged if he got gorilla-like with the bolt.)

Hi Skapper...the bolt snapped but i tried the snapped thread in the carrier and it seemed ok.....
if you do have to choice get the carrier aswell will hold fire lol...cheers M8.

No worries Rush..Thanks..

Madmax..that's an ace idea will have a go....how much on deflection/tension should the belt be?

Belt tension: If it is a "V" section belt, about 1 cm deflection at the centre of the longest run with a gentle push of the thumb, if it is a multi grooved flat ribbon type, same 1 cm, but pressing really hard.

But that's a guess - someone more familiar with the belts on this particular engine needs to chime in.

Good a replacement is on its way.
