This will be written as a semi tutorial,
I did this because I wanted to keep my factory cruise control, with my manual conversion
NOTE:
THIS IS WRITTEN FOR 2ND GEN'S FROM 93 ONWARDS, BUT COULD BE MODIFIED FOR PRE 93.
This is because according to the workshop manual this auto related wiring changed in 93
All pin and gear selector wiring is taken from the workshop manual

With the begin of this wiring task I found myself to have 3 main challenges:
- Start the car in P/N then switch to D automatically
- Connect the reverse lights to the manual gearbox without the ecu having any problems
- Cruise control disable switch on the clutch that doesnt put on my brake lights

Start the car in P/N then switch to D automatically

This is a very basic design that should work almost indefinitely if installed correctly.
It works like this as soon as the 'ACCESSORIES' is turned on the car is put into 'DRIVE' (at least the ecu/tcu thinks this), when the key is turned to the 'START' position, the car is put into 'PARK' momentarily, when the key is released (turning back to IGNITION) the car is released from 'PARK' and put back into 'DRIVE'
CREDIT FOR THE RELAY IDEA GOES TO MY STEPFATHER MICHAEL
Why have I done this?
-from numerous post on the topic of manual conversion, I have determined that the wiring conversion is easy however most people lost the ability to use their cruise control, because the tied the wiring to always be in PARK/NEUTRAL, and you cant enable cruise control in PARK/NEUTRAL.
How does it work?
the modification works by having a relay that is enabled when the 'accessories' is turned on this puts the car in 'drive', there is a second relay that is enabled the the key is turned to the 'start' position, the brilliance in the simplicity is that when the key is turned to 'start' the 'accessories' looses power removing the car from drive and momentarily putting it in 'park'
the first thing I did was to get another inhibitor switch from the wreckers as while I was still driving the car around I did not wanna be cutting wires out of the transmission plug for testing.
the modified inhibitor switch with connecting wires labelled.

for the relays to be switched, I needed power from the accessories and the start position
These can be got from two places:
- directly off the back of the ignition barell
- accessories from the radio/cigarette lighter and start directly from the enable wire on the starter wire
I choose to use the method of directly off the back of the barell because I wanted both wires to come from the same point for simplicity and my engine was hot so I didn't wanna burn my hand trying to connect to the starter motor.
The connections off the back of the barrel are shown in the picture below

the connection of the relays is shown in the picture below

Connect the reverse lights to the manual gearbox without the ecu having any problems

the top left of the picture shows the connection from the inhibitor switch to the reverse plug on the manual gearbox, while the gearbox is not actually from a magna it proves my point.
The connection at this point, worked (lights came on) with the car running displaying 'D' with no problems

Cruise control disable switch on the clutch that doesn't put on my brake lights
__________________________________________________ ____________
The idea behind this, is that from all the reading I had done on the auto to manual topic, for the clutch switch to stop the cruise control the clutch switch was connected into the wire to the brake switch.
What this means is that everytime I shift my brake lights would come on, or have no clutch switch which means if i was to shift the engine would start to rev to maintain speed as there would be no power to the wheels during the shift, I found this to be unacceptable.
My choice on this, though i haven't wired it in (I cant see why it wont work) Is to connect the cluch switch into the hand controls for the cruise control (cancel/resume/set)
What i will do is find somewhere under the dash to splice into the wire to this hand controls.
Off the hand control there is two wires, they work by:
- If the wires are touched/shorted together the cancel button has been pressed
- If there is a resistance between both wires of 828 Ohm the resume button has been pressed
- If there is a resistance between both wires of 2700 Ohm the set button has been pressed
(If for whatever reason someone wants to make there own cruise control hand control, close enough resistor values should work)
Therefore if i connect the clutch switch to both hand control wires and press the clutch (shorting the wires together) it will be the same as pressing the cancel switch, stopping the cruise control without putting on the brake lights.

I did this awhile ago with a mate.
Heres my Tread.. Have a read and see if it helps.
I have not had issues with the cruise since. Love it!!

Good luck with it.
