What do people do when they do a 3.8 conversion on a 3.5 with regards to the ECU?
Will the standard ECU run it fine (and safely) until a proper tune can be done?
Also will a Ralliart tune be better suited to a 3.8?

Ralliart tune considers the ralliart cams, which are the same as the 380 cams. The tune will be fine till you get it on the dyno (which you don't really need to do.)

Std ECU will run fine, there was a lot of hype back when we first started to do these however most is rubbish. I have several customers running KF (so originally 3.5) and TH, J series on std ecu and std tunes with no issues. Some of them drive the cars quite hard often and not an issue yet.

The tune has really little if anything to do with cams, the concern was detonation due to the higher comp ratio and higher capacity, this is not an issue

that being said, would it still make sense to chuck the car on a dyno after grabbing the 3.8? it wouldn't really make sense to put a bigger engine in and not have it tuned to how you want it.

The standard 3.5 tuned ECU is pretty intelligent so it shouldn't be an issue. My TW AWD got 136AWKW with the 3.8 motor running the standard tune so it can't be all that bad! But when I got it tuned at SKR, the dyno run revealed that the mixtures and ignition timing could be tweaked a little bit to make it run better for the long run.
