Just had my car in to have the transmission, transfer and diff' serviced. Report came back stating I had an error code - Code 22 (Crank Angle Sensor Problem).

Car seems fine, its never thrown a CEL and its only ever given me issues with starting once. Whats going on? I don't want to rush out throwing money around unless I have a really good understanding of what to double check.

I've done a search on the forums, came up with this;

"Code 22
Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor fault. Possible causes:
faulty distributor assembly (if equipped), faulty CKP sensor,
connector or harness."

Anybody else had a Code 22?

code 22 is crank angle sensor, have no experience with this but do with code 23. This is cam angle sensor. Both will stop the engine from starting.

Probably an old code, erase it by disconnecting battery for a minute or so.
If the crank angle sensor stuffs up completely, you won't be able to start the car, or it will cut out on you. You can then read the code (paperclip method) and get the sensor replaced if it comes up as 22 again.

Crank angle sensor is behind the cam belt cover, not a quick job to change it over.

Snapper, get it cleared and check again in a few weeks, if is in need of replacing is a 45 min job at worst so not a big deal
