Goodaye fellas and ladies.
I have been looking at this forum for a while now and have picked up a few pointers which have all been good for my learning as i have in the last year bought a th 3.5 magna sports having retired my old EK holden, well the main roads and coppers retired it for me. Anyway the other week when I started my car the trip computer thing on the dash began beeping and flashing at me and then it stopped. The car started fine and I drove into town. Now when I tried to start it again to come home it was like the battery was just about knackered as it just groaned over, after a 3 or 4 tries it did start but it barely turning over before it finally caught. Next morning it started fine and its been ok since. I drive only highway to get to town about 50k each way so battery is always getting a good charge, has anyone got an idea what it may have been as I have got no idea as the workings of this car is totally alien to me. I haven't driven anything but my old EK for the last 30 odd years. Thanks in advance, Harry

Most likely scenario - your battery is, or is going, flat, which is why your trip meter is resetting.
Replace the battery, after that, reprogram the trip meter. It will flash S for sedan, press the trip computer button and it will change to W for wagon. hold down the trip computer button when its showing the right body and it will beep and 3.5 will show on the screen. press and hold it again and it will go back to normal.
You'll need to undertake the relearn procedure for the transmission, as the TCU & ECU will reset when you disconnect the battery, found here. (http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/9649/magnatransshift.jpg)

Good luck :)

Century Batteries should be fine, provided it has the correct CCA rating. If you're buying from a retailer such as Repco or Supercheap, make sure you check (or have them check) the product catalogue and confirm the battery you're buying is suitable for the application.
