Hi all, the Harmonic Balancer separted on my TS magna and thanks to some great advice I've read here, I went out and got myself a replacement HB from a magna spare place in Lilydale - set me back $70.00 but it was way too hot to spend possibly a long while wrestling with an obstinate nut in the yard at Kilsyth pick-a-part, and $70 is far cheaper than some prices I've seen.
At home I had no trouble getting the old wheel off the motor. I used the method described in one of the AMC forum posts: breaker bar witth 22mm socket, coil disconnected, turn the key for a moment, engine won't start but the starter motor will turn the crank to release the tough nut - thanks for that tip. And there are a couple of youtube clips that pretty well explain the process.
Anyhow - sailing along thinking this is easy. Got the alternator belt back on just fine. The alternator tensioner was easy enough to slacken off.
Now here's the problem: put a 14 mm ring spanner on the air-con tensioner and I just cannot budge the nut that releases the wheel assembly so that it will slide up or down. I'm attempting to turn the nut anti-clockwise and all I've managed to do is go some way to rounding the nut - which is definitely what I don't want. Space is tight and I can't get a socket onto the nut.
I need help? I was thinking that maybe I could remove the tensioner assembly completely but it looks like it is part of the air con so please - what do you suggest?
Gosh, I guess I could leave it off? 2 or 3 hot days coming up and I can alwaays open the window. Anybody know whether omitting the belt to the air-con will cause any problems? BTW this would be just a short-term solution so I can get back on the road.
