View Full Version : Battery charging??

OK - this WILL sound dumb (I just know it); but I have looked in the FAQ's and Search bar and cannot find anything really clear about reconnecting a battery after recharge? The better half left the tailgate up all night and drained the battery. :kb:

From what I have found you use the dash control to remind the car that it's either a Sedan or Wagon, and a 3.0 or 3.5 L. But the next bit about driving the car and it having to relearn it's own transmission?? Just how easy is that?

And almost any story I read had some other issue apparently "pop up" at the same time? Am I likely to develop issues that weren't there prior? :eek2:

The beauty of these cars is the INVECS2 transmission which learns your driving style and adapts to it. Turn the key and drive it. The car will be fine.

There is a procedure to reset the transmission but alas I don't have it, nor use it.

Sometimes the idle can go a bit wonky when you first start it but I have never had this issue.

I have two third gens and never bother to relearn the autoboxes, I just drive gently after a battery disconnect and they do ok.

Idle however - neither will idle properly afterwards, I need to keep the revs up with my right foot until the ISC comes good. I do this in the driveway, been caught out by this on the road and not funny when the engine cuts out and I lose power steering. Can take a while getting either to idle reliably.

Hey Mad - how are you. Is this idle thing a common fault; i.e. am I likely to have it happen?

I've disconnected my battery a few times (lost count.. re setting all the headunit settings is a pain though!!) and I've never had my '99 TH Exec stall out afterwoods. Not sure if it's a case by case thing or maybe cars with a dirty ISC? My car was a one-owner granny car so it was fairly well maintained (service, etc).

Transmission will be funny though. Will rev higher etc. My idle is usually the same, idles higher then normal, even when at operating temp.
