hey guys, tomorrow im going down to look at a active 12" sub (http://www.jbhifi.com.au/car-sound-gps-navigation/sub-woofers/cadence/400-watt-12-inch-sub-in-box-with-built-in-amp-sku-84812)
i like that its got the built in amp, will make it easy for me to quickly take the box out when i need ALL the wagon boot space. (most weekends) this is why im not fussed that the bulit in amp option will not be as good as one with an external amp.
my question is, how much should i expect to pay for all the cables to run this sub?

You will need to check the sub first, since its very low powered something like 12 gauge should suffice in this instance, but what you will need to do it check the manual, because some active subs come with a basic wiring loom so then you just want to get wires the same size as of those in the kit.
I did one recently in a van, the max was something silly but the RMS rating was 75 watts, I think I used some Auto Cable that was rated for about 20amps and it was all good.
In this case your best of having the sales person tell you what sort of cable you will need, chances are they will just check the manual anyway.

Wiggles has the right of it.
A salesperson will have you playing grabankle quick smart. If you're in Melbourne, I am pretty sure I have a bucketload of amp/sub wiring floating about I am happy to donate.... Heck, might even have the fuse for you as well.

No wukkas, mate. Sharing is caring!
8 gauge is a good all rounder that provides decent power, not too thick to work with , and can be a good investment in case you want to put different rigs in the car in future.
its also commonly found second hand.. and is not necessarily any more expensive than thinner cables.
