Howdy everyone,

I've just picked up the following on a punt that they would fit, not knowing diddly squat really about offset and such; however, I did search through the forums here a bit and it seems as though a few people are running 18x9's without any trouble.

Speedy Cheetahs (Hyper Silver): 2 - 18x9 +35, 2 - 18x8 +35

These are basically new rims with 95% tread on the tyres.

Well, the 18x9's simply don't fit. They stick out about 25mm beyond the rim (didn't actuall measure, too freak'n hot to bother doing things correctly.) So, I'm wondering what the approximate cost of having the rear guards rolled might be? Would also, consider possible swap.

I'm driving a 2000 TH Sports, by the way.

Cheers

those rims will fit fine. its the tyres that are the problem.

Thanks Hayden,

The tyres are 265/35 zr18's. What are you suggesting?

235/40 r18's on the front

245's, maybe?

I've got 245/40/18 and the first set of tyres were fine but I've just put Kumho KU31? on the front and they scrub a tiny bit when at full lock and hit a bump, like turning sharp into a driveway.

edit: I can't remember my offset - a difference here could mean more or less scrubbing for same tyre on a different wheel.

Shitballs! No wonder you're having issues. My 235s rubbed on my TJ! 245 is the absolute max to run on a Magna.

Anyway I paid $110 from a local panelbeater to have my guards rolled.

Thanks Oggy and Red,

Yeah, I had my suspicions from the beginning on the 265's. I figured for the price I payed (think I got a pretty good deal), considering tyres and rims are pretty close to new, if the 265's turned out to be too wide I could always sell them off and get narrower tyres or look at rolling the gaurds. $110 is cheaper than what I'd expect and I know a decent panelbeater ;). Hayden has already suggested that I should not have any trouble putting 235/40r18's on the 18x9 rims. I currently have 235/60r16 on the stock th sports rims. These, I have no trouble with whatsoever. For now, I'll most likely go with the 235/40r18's and try to avoid as much hassle as possible.

Cheers

Hayden's running 18x9.5 with 235/40/18 without drama... but I had issues with 18x8 with 235/40/18 (both with the flares and with the guards). So it'll vary. I got there in the end, but I know I'd be bloody apprehensive about going wider than 8.5" on a Magna.

Fair enough. I'll have to get out the measuring stick and do some muck'n around between the rims, tyres and gaurds. Who knows, I may have to end up just doing a trade or something in the end.(Y)

If you're around Melbourne, I do guard rolling for $40 per corner

Thanks much Magnaboy,
I may have to take you up on it. I'll know more after Saturday. Yeah, I'm in Chelt.

Cheers

Update: I ended up putting some Achilles 235/40r18's on the 18x9's, no dramas. All is good. There's no rubbing when going over bumps or cornering.
