View Full Version : Uncertainty about car weight
I keep seeing two figures stating to be the weight of my jan 03 Tj executive, one being ~1460 and the other ~1540. They're both kerb weights I've seen quoted multiple times for the exact same car on sites such as redbook and carsales. Any help? Thanks!
EDIT: also today I obliterated a BA xr6 and vy executive in separate drags, which perplexes me because they have a much higher billed torque and killowasp figure. Is the 155kw @ 5250 for the Tj an underquote? Or is there kw loss from engine to REar Wheels that accounts for the difference?

First of all, we don't condone traffic light drags. Second of all, those weights are between the sedan and the wagon. Thirdly, the BA weighs a lot more and the VY isn't that torquey an engine.
TJ Exec: 155kW @5250rpm and 316Nm @ 4000rpm and 1468kg
BA XR6: 180kW @5000rpm and 380Nm @ 3250rpm and 1664kg
VY Exec: 152kW @5200rpm and 305Nm @ 3600rpm and 1573kg
Perhaps depends which model year TJ and what options were fitted??
I had a TJ exec sedan series 1.5 (MY 2002 basic model) and recall it was around the 1500Kg mark (*Edit - 1460kg - thank you vlad).
As for beating an XR6 & VY exec? Doesn't surprise me as the 6G74 from TJ series 1.5 onwards was very responsive and had a lot of get up & go from idle, even with the 4 speed auto.
That was one of the things that really impressed me when I first test drove the '02 TJ.
It's doubtful the engine produces more power than the stated 155kw, it's just how and where the power and torque is developed in these engines.
Also take into account the XR6 is a heavier car & the VY commodes have the asthmatic 3.8ltr OHV ecotec V6s and from memory they were also heavier than a base model Magna of the same era.
**Edit** Vlad chimed in with his post as I was typing this.

Actually we set up along Swamp rd and yeah. Don't assume there were traffic lights involved.

The auto slushbox weighs more than the manual. Those figures you have are for sedan and wagon though. For a manual tj exec you are around the 1400 mark.
he should have been more specific. We DO NOT condone racing in any way, shape, or form on a public road.

Beat me to it.
