Hi All,

Am about to install a reversing camera between the number plate lights. However, I noticed this bolt on the inside:

Anyone know what it is for?

Cheers,

Vlad

Holding the Verada garnish on.

Thanks Mike. Knew you'd be the first to reply. Is your camera in the centre or off centre?

Cheers,
Vlad

My camera is fixed using a screw holding the little number plate lights. I modified muberplate light so the cable could pass through with a waterseal, and also there would be no extra holes made in the car garnishes.

I tilted the camera slightly so that I could get a full view.

Cheers Mike. I bought one of those 360 deg ones that require an 18.5mm hole. It is swivable and tiltable (like a minuature dome security camera) with wireless transmitter and receiver.

So Mike, in order to remove the garnish to fit the camera onto it, I'll just need to undo the two bolts?

Cheers,
Vlad

Ha, think it's three or four, you may have to pop your reverse lights out as well, top part of the garnish is held on by bolts, whilst the lower bit is attached by those press in clips, like on the door trims.

Cheers Michael. Will have to give it a go then. I guess the plate lights will have to be popped off as well?

No, from memory the lights are separate and are screwed to the lid and the garnish has to come off before you can get to them. Beware, those clips are in really tight. A cloth covered screwdriver to help keep lever the top half out so that you can get your hands in behind the garnish to pull it off

is it flexible enough to leave the clips in and pull the top out say an inch just to drill hole and pass cable through?

Before I tackle the garnish, anyone know whether the top bit is solid or hollow?

Cheers,
Vlad

Edit: I might as well post it here. Anyone know if the rear of the stereo deck can be accessed from the side? That is, remove the trim below the glove box and also remove the glove box. I really do not want to have to remove the unit to hook up the reversing trigger wire and the video in cable.

It is hollow.

And the best way to access audio HU is by taking out the ashtray and lower console. More often than not, there is a bit of length to the usual RCA additional cables that the audio systems have. You should be able to access it from there.

Taking out the glovebox will not be effective as there are is a large steel frame on the side of the audio system which will block access.

Cheers all. Looks less daunting now. Will tackle the garnish first. I don't have an ash tray, the 2din unit is below the center vents and above the climate control unit. I had Murph03 help me fit my 2din unit before so can't remember how the plastic covers come off. Only remember him saying you have to pinch the covers at certain points and lift.

take out the centre console (lower one) and then remove the pocket with the lid but pulling on it.

The upper part clips in. Lift from the bottom, and you will work it out with the clips.

Mike, where do I pinch/squeeze to remove the lower console?

Under the console lid, there is a clip at the back. Remove the rear lidded bin by lifting it, and then pop the console upwards. Then follow through to the front.

Cheers all for the help. Will tackle it during the easter break. Michael, not MIke, I promise to call you if I am stuck.

Update. After removing the three bolts at the top, two clips at the top corners, two bolts for each reverse light, two bolts for the number plate and finally the four clips at the bottom, still could not remove it as it is glued at the bottom. However, there was enough room to easily fit the camera. Will attack the dash again tomorrow.

The trick with the white clips I found was to use a metal chuck for drill attachments which had approx. 6mm inner diameter and slotted it on and pushed and it popped easily.
Here are the camera mount pics:
