It seems 3rd gen paint isn't the highest quality with the clear coat peeling and overall dull look.
Someone has told me that the white color has the clear coat in the paint. Does this mean that a dull white Magna/Verada can be polished to a shine?
And, for cars which have the clear coat peeling, do they require a complete respray on affected areas or are they just sprayed with clear coat on top?

Actually the paint on the 3rd Gens were pretty good back in their time, their color matching of the front and rear bar too were second to none. The reason the clear coat peels or the paint fades is because the car isn't maintained well, a good paint sealant will take alot of the damage from the UV leaving the clear coat unscathed.
The 3rd Gen paint is a clear over the base, I doubt it would be different for the white, if you have dull paint a good quality polish like HD Uno done correctly can remove alot of blemishes and can bring back that shine, and then seal it with HD Poxy would ensure its protected for about 3-6 months at a time.
Once clear coat is peeling, that's it, you can in some instances just spray another clear over the top but if the clear has degraded for too long chances are the paint will need rejuvenating.

The paint is pretty good overall with good depths, it is poor maintenance by owners that causes clear coat lift.
It requires a full respray

I got the shock of my life after we had the step daughters burgundy VT's bonnet, front gaurds, both bumpers and boot repainted for $1000 and I asked about doing my left front gaurd, both bumpers and rear tailgate on the Magna and he quoted me $3000 to $4000 because the pearl paint is a lot more expensive than "normal" paint.

Yup. I'm not sure of the price but I do

... I do know my daughter can hijack my iPhone.
But, yes it will be more expensive; three layers of paint I think? I had an exec that was expensive to paint :/
It's a nice colour though, and it seems to last a lot better than other colours.

Problem is whats a TH Altera goon with 400,000kms worth even with perfect panels.
I'll just keep an eye out with Mal(buddy cobber pal) eBay, trading Post, Gumtree ect ect for panels the same color.

I have the Paris white and recently did a full cut and polish.with amazing results. Admittedly, I don't have any clear coat lift, but still, the paint was very dull. The difference was incredible, for what amounted to, a few hours work.

If you look at Shoots aka The green Goblin paint before and after i did a full paint protection on it then you will see it can be bought up very nicely if you know what your doing and have about a spare 5 or 6 hours. As for white its a base colour too just like the other colours with a clear top coat. If the clear coat is good then you have a good chance to bring the paint up like new just once it is done keep the paint sealer or wax up to it i do mine every three weeks and it is still perfect

MITSUBISHI PARIS WHITE (code = W45/WP) is a SOLID colour and doesn't have a clear coat. Sorry to disappoint you. lol

You beat me by 4 minutes.
Paris white is the hardest wearing of all the 3rd gen colours in my opinion. And yes, after a polish, the change is gobsmacking.

AFAIK solid colours have no clearcoat, metallics and most pearls do.
Wife's Lancer is white, and a quick wash and polish brings it up as new. Son's black (with gold flakes and clear coat) Lancer on the other hand, is looking sad indeed. Both bought new in 2004.
Actually, some aftermarket parts suppliers and crash repairers use solid colour with clear over it for a quick fix of added bits or damaged panels, just to match the shine of the original paint. Grand-daughter has a red Lancer, body is solid colour with no clear coat, but the spoiler peeled its clear coast badly.

Disappoint me? That's even BETTER! Of course, I DID say I never had lift, and now I know why...... so, erm.......... thanks?

Yep, you can now stop waiting for it to peel off. lol
Remember . . . Wax on, Wax off . . . . keep it shiny.

So a dull white Magna/Verada will polish up nicely?
What about the pearl white that some Veradas have?

I can only go by my experience, but yeah, did a mild cut on it and was astounded by the results. I expected improvement but it totally restored the finish. Give it a go, you'll be glad you did.

Yes, well . . . I have a TL in Starlight, but would have preferred white as I know that lasts longer and is easier to DIY repaint if it gets damaged.
No wear visible on the Starlight after 8 years, so I'm hoping it lasts for years more.
Starlight comes in 2 different types, AFAIK, clear over pearl base and pearl right through with no clear coat.
See what happens I guess. Could always do a closed door respray in future if it deteriorates. In white of course. lol
