Quick one, got my wheels rotated and balanced with my service, now the steering wheel is about 15 degrees off centre. Do I need an alignment for anyother reason than an unstraight steering wheel?

Cheers

they did some sort of alignment and did it very wrong.

Yeah they rotated the tires and balanced them. When I rang them they didn't do an alignment. They said rotating the wheels can cause the alignment to be thrown out because of differently warn tread.

It's going to be an extra 60 bucks for an alignment

I'm not so sure it's the alignment that's the problem but a shaped tread pattern that's causing the pull. You might want to drive it for a little while to see if you can scrub out the problem.

A new wheel alignment might cause the opposite pull if you fit a new set of tyres in the future. The wear is often caused by the camber of the road and to drive straight you have to pull against it. I have a Toyota Hiace and the front inside tyre always wears out first because of the road camber.

I also once had a Peugeot that was very sensitive to road camber and when it pulled to one side the official fix was just to swap the two front tyres to their opposte sides. This fixed the problem. You might want to try it first.

Sometimes a tyre will drag more than others

I have seen and had this happen, had it happen once with brand new tyres, got them and an alignment and wheel was off centre, went back and I personally checked it and we also re calibrated the machine thus this ruled out the machine. Got the 2 fronts and swapped them L to R and the wheel sat the other way then. Replaced both front tyres (they had done all of 10k's) and problem solved.

check tyre pressures as well cause 1 might be lower than the other
