Hi all, the timing chain in my TS rattles bad when the engine is ideling but only when the engine is hot when its been driven for about 15 minutes, a couple of minutes driving when the engine is cold and its quiet, no rattles. Is this normal when the timing chain is worn? or could something else be causing the chains to rattle when the engine is hot? cheers

usually the cogs and chains wear on the TS/TR 4 cyl

so you can buy a chain and cog set from repco
that has all the gaskets and seals in it
you will also need a sump gasket

if there is noise after you replace the cogs and chains
it will be worn balance shafts

Thanks for your reply magna buff, the car has only done 147K, I'm selling the car soon and was hoping for a easy fix, any oils or oil additives I can you use to make it sound better? its weird it sounds perfect if its only been running 5 or 10 minutes, but longer and it rattles, cheers

ok this might work for you

on the timing cover is a plate with two bolts
undo that and there is a chain adjuster
undo the adjuster bolt push down on the chain
do up the bolt and refit the cover

this is the only pic of the cover i have
the cover is on the left of pic
ignore the blurb just the diagramme

That one adjusts the oil pump and balance shaft chains.
Usually its the cam chain that is flapping about. No adjuster for that one, but you could try a thicker oil.
As the engine warms up, the bearing clearances increase and the oil thins. There is a slipper tensioner for the cam chain on the oil pump, but it's not very effective with low oil pressure and worn chains and guides.
Only long term fix is to replace chains, cogs and guides.

A 2.6L second gen with rattly chains is worth very little on the second hand market, assuming you can find a buyer.
