Hey guys, I'm recently new here, but I've owned my 1996 Magna TE 4Banger for about 3 years now, never ever let me down, ran like a dream and always kept it in good knick. It's only at 185,000 KLM/s and just recently it's been stricken with the Cranking but won't fire problem, I know I've seen a lot of forum posts about this common problem, but none of them ever seem to be solved, or maybe I haven't searched vigorously enough??
Anyway, these are the checks I've done.
1.Getting Fuel [Tick]
2.Getting Spark [Tick]
3.Getting Injector Pulse [Tick]
4.Replaced Crank Angle Sensor [Tick] - Didn't solve the problem
5.Checked for blown fuses [Tick]
Narrowed it down to the Immobilizer or something in the ECU.
I've got my mate coming down tonight to check out the codes, and see what else we can do to narrow it down further, but I've seen a lot of this problem on the forum and I'm getting the impression it's a tough one to crack. Will see how it goes tonight, any suggestions???

If you are getting pulse, fuel and spark then there is no issue with the car provided these are all happening at the same time
I am curious as to your testing methods as the only other thing you could be lacking is compression?
Not sure why CAS was replaced if you have spark and pulse as with no CAS you will not have either, also immob cuts fuel pulse thus if you have immob issue no pulse

I had a spare CAS lying around off a mates magna, It didn't take me long to replace, and I know it wouldn't of fixed the problem but I just wanted to be 100% certain that it wasn't.
This problem has been going on for a month, but recently the car decided that it wanted no more of it, and wouldn't start at all. Prior to this it wouldn't start first crank or second, but third or forth it'd finally fire.
And you're right, I didn't think of that - I'm yet to do a compression test but I just want to run these codes first to have a better idea.

On another note, come to think about it - this problem started happening soon after I replaced the battery in the car. Could the new battery be playing up with the ECU? Or Ignition or Anything?

I suppose that while you changed the crank angle sensor you also checked for correct timing on the cam belt?
Check ECU error codes. A dud cam angle sensor can do this. (If this motor has one, it would be inside the distributor)

UPDATE:
It turns out it's the Immobilizer and that there's more than likely loose wiring and corrosion possibly between the ECU and Ignition/Immob.
We threw on the scanner, and bypassed the Immobilizer and the car started first go...
So that's more likely than not the problem here we guess.
Get the car back Friday once he's gone through the wiring and done what he needs to do to it. (my mate)
Hopefully it all turns out well.

UPDATE: SOLVED
Got my car back yesterday, works perfectly. The problem to the cranking but isn't firing is simply wires shorting out or loose wiring in the ecu. Got them all fixed up and she starts perfectly, wires can corrode and stuff and short out, which tells the immob not to start, and also why sometimes itll start up but not all the time.
