Hi all,

Just a query whether any body has done an air con delete on their 6g74s? I know I might sound a little  but this engine is going into a car that didn't come with air con standard.

As the air con and AC are run on the same belt, it looks like if the AC compressor is removed and I use a shorter belt for the alternator, then it will clash with the idler pulley. I would prefer to remove the compressor rather than just let it run not hooked up to get rid of the wasted weight and to free up some extra room in the engine bay.

Has anybody successfully deleted the air con, and how did they do it? Would using a smaller idler pulley cause any additional problems? If I removed the idler as well and just ran the crank pulley to the alternator will I have issues with this?

Thanks!

you need the idler for the adjustment of the belt.

you could use a shorter belt instead of the belt coming down under the idler pulley make it go straight across from the harmonic balancer to the alternator then where it comes back down to the harmonic balancer go up over the the idler the only thing you need tom watch is the 2 bolts that come out of the alloy engine mount bracket they are very close to the belt might need to grind the heads a bit lower. Hope that makes sence.

Yep that makes perfect sense. Thanks for that. Will suss it out. Also didnt think about the engine mount position until after I posted that. Will have to do some measurements. The other idea we had was to move the alternator to where the AC compressor is, but think that would start needing some pretty serious fab work to make up an adaptor to sit it in the exact position, which is probably a bit beyond skill level.
